EVO Paint vs. GM/Ford Paint Quality....

I've done a search for quite some time and it seems like the average evo owner is less than happy with the quality of their paint job on their evo.

I myself have never owned a Mistsubishi, Honda, or Toyota Car. I have owned Fords and Chevrolets. (I.E. S10's, LS1's...etc..) How would you compare the paint job (exterior) on the Evo vs. say a ls1 or even just a GM car? Or a Ford Car?

thanks

My observations are that the EVO shines as well but the durability really seems to be in question. I already have two rock chips on the front with 1000 miles. But whose to say maybe just a bad day. Also I believe some guys have had reported problems with fade.

I had a black Chevy Z71 and I now have a black EVO and it's no contest. The Chevy was much better. I took less care of the truck and the finish looked 10x better. The clearcoat on these cars is very easy to scratch. I'd say stick with silver or white if you get an EVO. I love the black after a detail but after a few days those swirls come right back.

Comparing GM/Ford/Chrysler paint to japanese cars is like comparing GM/Ford/Chrysler paint to BMW/Mercedes.

I owned a Z28, Cobra, C4, and Impala SS prior to the Evo and I'd say they're basically all on par with each other. There aren't as many visual imperfections in the Evo but the paint seems to chip easier.

I don't remember reading this anywhere but I suspect that the Evo paint is a thinner layer than compared to other makes or models. It probably has to do with weight reduction.
Or cost reduction.

Or both..

I traded in two fords an svt focus and a ranger fx4 level 2, both in the Sonic Blue color, the Focus had 22K miles on it and the truck had 11K miles on it, both were less than a year old. My EVO has 22K miles on it now and the paint looks like crap. It is definetely thinner than the paint on my prior cars and doesn't shine up as well as the metallic sonic blue, but the solid red of my evo was definetely much easier to match up when my bumper needed to be repainted then the bumper on my focus.

I see a new paint job for my evo in the near future.

The basic paint on my Sebring seems at least as good as the EVO but both of them have a similar flaw where the paint color on the plastic parts and the metal parts doesn't quite match.
