like wheel shake...but really strange

Hey everyone,
I've been having a wheel shake problem for a while now. I've had all of the major suspension components recently changed, with no result. I've had a complete wheel rebalance and realignment done. Also no change.

The weird thing is though that the problem isn't constant. I only really feel it above about 60mph, and on certain stretches of road I won't feel it at all. I can be doing 75, 80mph and it'll be rock solid. The strangest thing is that I know exactly where those stretches of road are on my daily commute, so I know exactly when I will and will not get the shake.

To me, it sounds like a problem with the roads, rather than with the car, since the shaking isn't constant and isn't random. But still, I feel like significant wheel shake isn't normal. Has anyone else experienced this, or have any advice. Greatly appreciate it! Also, I live in Toronto, Ontario. Maybe it's just the way roads are built here??

Cheers everyone!

Had a similar problem, turned out to be a faulty tire. The car would run fine until I reach to about 75mph then get violent front end shake then smooth out at about 78mph. Try rotating the wheels and see if it smooths out or the vibration moves to the rear!

well could be a few things, you had them rebalance your tires? now you could either have a slightly bent wheel which you would only visually notice on a balance machine. If the tires need to be rebalanced id look into a Road Force Balancing machine, balances tires much better then the normal ones due to a load similar to road being placed on the tires. Or possibility of too much air or nitrogen pressure in the tires can cause that type of issue at higher speeds.

My car does this too from time to time, i have a slightly bent rf wheel, and depending on freeways you can slightly feel vibration in steering wheel, sometimes you cant.

Thanks guys, ya the tires are almost brand new so i'm almost sure that isn't the problem. The wheels get rotated once a season, and that was done a few months ago, with no change to the problem. Maybe it's just the roads...i'll try this in the Canadian forum and see if anyone else has the same issue.

I had something going on with my previous set of tires. I only got steering wheel shaking at interstate speed. It would come and go (mostly not be there) and there might be twenty miles between episodes. The same place using the same balance machine balanced both sets. My present tires are perfect.

My guess is that the tires of the first set were out of balance, but only slightly, so that the only time I could feel it was when the heavy points were exactly 180 degrees out of phase and horizontally apposed. Most of the time that wasn't the case.
