MIVEC Install Issues

Ive been installing cams on evos since 2006 but this is the first one that has me confused.

Simple springs and retainers and then cam install. While was trying to do the timing I saw the mivec cam gear (intake) spins normally along with the exhaust cam gear but at a point, the cam stops moving and the cam gear keeps moving. Basically, coming to think of it, its because the MIVEC cam gear needs oil pressure inside it. So, i add a little oil and turn the oil pump and thats it. Everything is back to normal and the cam is not acting funny anymore.

Once I start the car, there is a lot of noise from the intake cam side so I check on the cam gear and its doing it again. Feels like the cam gear isnt holding the cam in place and there is a free gap of an inch turning it front and back.

If your thinking i havent installed the metal piece that goes on the cam, i have done it already. Could it be possible i have a bad mivec cam gear?

I will post a video today.

Thanks guys!

Yup! I didnt want to post the solution because of how stupid the issue was

When I had pulled the motor apart, the head was completely black sludge.. i pulled the cams out and did the lifter bleed and clean process using diesel and we are all good!
