question about E85 tuning.

Just got my fuel pump and injectors today , from a newb , the tuner shop will charge

$120 to install these parts . I research the installation process here at the forum and

seems as simple as doing a brake and rotor job.

However , the tuner shop is 40 minute drive , so do I empty out my fuel tank , fill it

with e85 , install the fuel pump and injectors than drive to the shop and have it

tune?

Will it be safe to drive 40 minutes to the shop under these condition?

Depends on the size of injectors. You can drive on anything 720CC or bigger and not run lean if upgrading from stock. How much bigger will determine how much fuel you waste. If too big theb you could foul out the plugs and such from such a long drive but if just cruising the short term fuel trims can do wonders.

You'll be fine driving on those injectors and pump for that distance. I drove 45 minutes on my 1000cc's with the pump gas still in there to my tuner. It ran rich, but got me there just fine.

And on e85 it will be even better. I would worry about it.

i would just put the fuel pump and injectors in and drive there with just regular gas. Buy a 5 gallon gas canister and fill it with e85 and have your tuner drain your thank, it now that hard..

First of all you cannot replace a fuel pump with more than half full tank. So fail #1.

Bring the fuel in containers, do not put it in the tank.

Drain the tank before tuning and fill it up as high as it will fill to minimize dilution with gasoline.

And lastly pay them to install the parts as that price is fair.

Driving around with too much fuel will wash the cylinder walls of oil and damage your ring to wall seal.

you definitely can swap fuel pumps with more than 1/2 a tank. I'm not sure what the last guy was thinking.

changing injectors and fuel pumps is really easy.. if you have AAA, do the work yourself and have them tow it with the tank almost empty, save some $$

Sure if you want the other half of the tank to spill over onto your floor when you remove the retaining ring for the pump housing. The ring level is at the 50-60% tank mark so any more than that and it will dump out on the floor.

This is incorrect. I have changed fuel pumps many times with the tank near full. None "dumps out on the floor" and the ring level is not at 50-60%.

You are welcome to loosen the ring and then drive up to a gas pump and see what happens. I've seen it with my own eyes.

I replaced a fuel pump on an Evo 8 and my friend gased up right before he brought it to me so he still decided he wanted to do it so when we were done we had about 3/4 of fuel left after the rest of the gas spilled.
