Car always jerks when shifting when pushing it...

Alright, so I got an Evo 9 MR recently with the 6 speed tranny. I'm not the most experienced driver out there with the manual transmission, in fact I've never really even drove one to the max and never shifted at redline. You can say that I'm just scared of messing up and damaging something. But every time I try to accelerate (well push it a little bit and shift at around 5,500-6000 rpm) Pretty much all of the time it isn't smooth and I do it very slow... Takes maybe around 2.5-3 seconds to shift. I'm just too worried about messing something up. Can you guys tell me any secrets or how you all are shifting perfectly and lighting quick at wot? And I know that if I shift very fast on a fwd car (ex. Ms3, or a tuned civic, integra, etc..) the tires will just spin. But if you shift very fast on the Evo, will it hurt the tranny because of the stress is going there and not the tires? Thanks.

Maybe if you have a video on how to shift fast or something then that will help a lot!
I just think I'm a bit paranoid about this car and any new sounds or something that the car makes I just get very worried.. Aha.

Check your alaignment then the air pressure in your tires.. I dont know when you shift your supposed to shift at like 7,600rpm. When your shifting fast just shift fast but know how to shift or youll mess up the drivetrain. If you shift at wot theres a chance you can blow something up and thatll cost even more money.

do NOT dump the clutch when shifting. Learn to shift each gear almost like starting in 1st gear. If you hear a clunking when shifting, thats you putting a lot of stress on your transfer case which is $$$$. Your car is already fast, so you dont need to bang gears like a honda. Plus with a boosted car, missing a gear can result in detonation. Congrats, and have fun.

Get a front motor mount, it will greatly reduce the jerking.
I had the same problem and it almost went completely away with the new mount.
Torque solutions makes a good one

Don't worry about it man, the jerkiness is from the rpms being higher than what they need to be when you shift in the next gear. If you let the clutch out a little slower it will probably be a little smoother but I wouldn't worry about it, it will be fine!

Just bought a 2012 evo gsr and i know what u mean. ive only got 230 miles on her... 1st time driverer of a high performance car. almost every car ive ever ownded has been a stick but mostly in trucks. have had the car for 4 days now and i still have a tendency to want to dump the clutch. when i do that the car bogs down and the turbo doenst kick in. so i think its a matter of just driving the car and finding the sweet spots. i hate riding the clutch because it makes me feel like im abusing the car and with it being new and all, makes my bung hole pucker a bit. but the car wants to go fast! so give her what she wants! unless im doing it wrong, ive been getting it to about 5000 rpm's then shifting. shift the stick quickly and smoothly just dont dump the clutch...and like i said before each gear seems to like a specific amount of gas pedal applied in concert with letting the clutch out. ive hit the sweet spot all the way though 5th gear twice so far with out the car jerking. its a sweet feeling and u will have a smile on your face from ear to ear when u do it for the 1st time and look back in your rear view mirror at all the cars u just smoked lol...have fun and be safe

It jerks so much because you are shifting extremely slow. When shifting fast it should only take a tenth of a second or two and you will catch the RPM at the correct drop level so it will be smooth. Try shifting higher than 5500-6000 as well.

If you take 2.5-3 sec per shift, you are not doing it right. :}

^like I said, I'm not the best driver on manual but I just don't know how you guys are letting the clutch out slow and not just dropping it and still are able to shift so fast.. Every time when I try to shift fast the car jerks.. I had an experienced driver sit by me while I drove and he said I hit the gas to early because I didn't let the clutch out fully... I just probably get caught up in that whole moment and don't something wrong...

Well if I start driving and get up to the high rpms then let go of gas, clutch in, shift, clutch out FULLY, then floor it. And if I do it faster than 2 seconds (lol), should the car jerk or should it be a smooth transition?

Before your fears are recognize, dont worry about shifting fast and shifting higher in the rpm range aint the answer either. Time and practice are your friend. You simply have a timing/coordination problem that will fix itself with practice. Now if your back here again in 10k with a burned up clutch--then you need to slow it down and do it rt.

+1. Honestly just starting out I recommend riding that clutch when you have to, your way better off burning it than dumping your tranny. Once you get comfortable you can bang thru gears without actually banging, dumping, slipping or clunking. These take a while to really get used to.
