How much does a test pipe really help??

I currently have a Tanabe TBE on my Evo ix and I just ordered a test pipe for it to replace the cat on it. How much does a test pipe really help ? Looks like the response and turbo spool are better with a test pipe vs cat but are there any other real major gains?

It is probably one of the more influential bolt-ons you will get.

I can see how it'd be more air flow looking at how restrictive the cat is but I wasn't sure if it improved anything major with numbers to back it up

I'm not sure what you consider "major numbers" -- the numbers (IMO) are not "major" but they do increase...

Also, it definitely will open up the sound more of your exhaust so be ready. I love how it helped my quad-tip COBB catback...

and be ready for the nice smell. lol

It's by far one of the best bolt on mods you can do. it frees up back pressure and flow letting your entire system breath better. You'll notice faster response from the turbo, your boost may increase so keep an eye on that and definitely a louder exhaust note.
Of course, how much of an increase you'll feel depends on many factors including what mods you have done, and your elevation. Basically adding a test pipe doesn't magically "create" more power, it frees up the power your car is trying to make.
