oil change $$$

when i got my evo i paid a little extra $ for the "free oil changes until 36,000 miles waranty." Later in the mail i got a coupon book for the oil changes. well i got the first 3 done, now there telling me that i should have been paying the difference for what the coupon is for. reg oil change- $65, my coupon is only paying $37 of it. they say next time ill have to pay the $28. i thought it was free untill 36,000,mi, thats what the dealership said. i can buy the oil and do it myself for for like a 1/4 of what they charge! they always find a way to dick you in the end some how.

I believe that is incorrect if you bought the Pit Pass. The Pit Pass is to cover 100% of the cost of your Mobil 1 synth oil changes.

SC~ who changes his own oil.

I did have the pit pass (just cancelled it after the first oil change) and the dealership charged me ~$60 for the oil change, pit pass or no.

It may have been a "stupid dealer" problem, but I've heard the same story from more than one person at more than one dealer, some of which are wonderful in most other senses.

Did you get "free oil changes until 36K miles" in writing from the dealer?

If he bought the 'pit pass' he certainly did. Thats what the pit pass is.....prepaid oil changes every 3500 or 5000 miles dependant on which package you bought until you reach 36000 miles.

I'd heard of the pit pass before buying my car, but they didn't bother to offer it to me. Nor did they make me watch a video

Seem like a waste of $$$$ to me. The EVO is so easy to change the oil. Don't even have to move the oil drain pan. Both the filter and oil pan will drain into it at the same time, in the same place. I find myself laying underneath looking up at all the EVO beauty from underneath longer than it takes to change the oil. But I'm that kinda a car person.

why does it cost so much to change the oil on the evo? *sorry, this is my first post, and i have mine ordered, just have to wait for it to come in to pick it up* Mobil 1 is only like $5-6/qt at walmart.

Because some dealers try to rip you off. I've seen dealers charge as much as $9 per quart of Mobil 1. So that's $45 + tax right there. I've bought Mobil 1 for under 5 bucks a quart at Walmart and Target. The OEM filter should cost no more than $7 or so. My local dealer charges about $15 for an oil change (filter included) if I bring my own oil. That's what I do.

BTW, it's not just Mitsu that pulls this scam. I used to drive BMW's for years. They charge somthing like 9 or 10 bucks a quart for their BMW branded oil, which is just Castrol Syntec semi-synthetic that you can buy anywhere for like $2.50 or $3 a quart. And the BMW branded filters are made by Mahle. The dealer charges something like $12 for it, but I you can get it from a Mahle distributor for about $4.

For the dealers this is just easy money.

At the dealer that I bought my EVO from they offered free oil changes and wash on all models for 4 years except the EVO. I complained to the president of the dealership and we agreed that if I bring in the oil they will provide the filter, labor, and a wash. For 4 years.

this is at the 'warner robins mistubishi' i went home and looked all over my contract and no where does it say "free oil changes" so the dealership just told me that, and me being in such a hurry to get it i said ok. and another thing, the coupons have the mileage written out when im suppost to bring it in, and there in 5000 intervals but the mechanic keeps writing 3000 on the sticker on the winsheild. does everybody else have theirs changed at every 5000miles? and no, the coupons are not called 'pit pass' it is 'car care service plan.'

I have mine changed every 5K miles, but I also put about 5K miles a month on my car, there is no way I'm bringing it in for an oil change every two weeks when the owner's manual says 5K is o.k.

It sounds like you got screwed by the dealership, the most you can do is complain to Mitsubishi about unscroupulous practices, as well as writing to the newspapers and news stations action lines. I would search their advertisiments in the news papers to see if you can get the free oil change thing in writing and then use that as your proof, otherwise, unless you paid for the Mitsubishi Pit Pass service you're out of luck.

And folks that did pay for the Pit Pass service, you are supposed to be getting more than just a Mobil 1 oil-change, make sure you get the tire rotation and 27 point inspection as well as a free car wash if you so desire, you paid for it, you have a right to demand you get what you pay for.

My dealer even deducted 75 bucks for the pit pass service when I got the 15K service.
