does your alarm have like remote kill or something? cuz if it's turning back on just fine when you cycle the alarm i think it's alarm related.

The alarm has 2 kill switches. I removed the old alarm and installed a new alarm. So the alarm issue would be ruled out.

Happened again today. Driving normal. Everything goes dead. I take off the turbo timer and pull out the key from the ignition and put it back in and it starts back.

ok if it's starting after you take the key out and in again it sounds like maybe a relay is getting switched off that controls something the car needs to run, IE spark or fuel. And when you take the key out and put it back in it resets everything. Does it always stop after the same amount of time? like it always turns off after 20 min of driving? does it turn off after you got WOT a couple times? does it do it when you hit big bumps?

One other thing, Did you tell the alarm guy it was a JDM evo? I cant tell you for certain since i dont have the wiring diagrams for the car to compare to a US one. But it could be that he along with the other alarm installer are tapping into the wrong wires. Just because they are colored the same as a US spec evo doesn't mean they do the same thing. just something to think about. Hope you get it fixed!

it cuts off randomly. not at any specific time. it won't cut off for 2 days straight then the next morning it will cut off after 5 mins of driving or the next day it will cut off after 40 mins of driving. very unpredictable. I agree with you that when i pull out the key and put it back in it resets something. any ideas on what to check?

Have you tried another set of coils? Maybe borrow a friends set? After that I would start looking at the wiring. You could have a ground going bad somewhere. The whole alarm thing kind of triggers a thought that possibly the wiring to the alarm has a short in it. The professional could have installed the alarm correctly but if there is a power surge in the wiring to it...good luck.

You should be able to find a list of all the grounds somewhere online. My subie did the same thing once. It was a loose ground for the coil igniter. I think this is your next step.

Found the problem guys. A loose wire going to the ecu was the culprit. After changing all belts, crank sensor, cam angle snsor, fuel pump, new alarm.
