I think it'd be sweet to throw an LS1 in an Evo. If I found a shell cheap enough I would have already done it.

However, it's more or less a waste of time as stated earlier, unless you're just doing it to **** off Evo enthusiasts. Throw an LS1 in a Notchback or an FD, add said 88mm turbo, and call it a day.

I believe Rhys Millen builds the kits for these.
He used make those kits, but it was the transfer case that couldn't take the power levels too much more than stock, not the rear diff (to all the haters, yes, his kit still utilized the tcase). Think of it as just taking the front axles out of the equation, but keeping the rest of the drive train. I love Evos and I love drifting, and I would convert mine to rwd if money was no object. I also love how people will defend the Evo and it's rally heritage, yet the only racing their Evo will see is in a straight line. The way I see it, drifting is much closer to rally than drag racing. I like the car because it is so versatile.

^^ While i very much agree with that, i can't help but add my .$02.

Just because people buy their evo's and don't rally them doesn't mean their evo should be crushed. It's a car. People buy Evo's because they love the body style, the motor, or maybe they just want to beat their friends who have Sti's. You can drag race it, rally it, autox it, or just DD it. Evo's can pretty much do anything. You can even put a ls2 in it and drift it. But when it comes down to it, it only matters what you want to do with it. It's your car afterall. OP came in trying to bounce some ideas around and see if there were any RWD Evo's that people knew of and info about doing the swap. It didn't take long before this happened.

OP if you were close to me I'd buy you a beer.

I would never make my Evo RWD, it would take away from everything I bought the Evo for.

With that sad, there is a companey that makes a kit that allows you to bolt a GM Transmission into the Evo. Can't remember who.

i saw the pic of the one ls swap and yea he was right it doesnt look that great under the hood but anyways the fact it has been done is nice to see because i was just looking out for suggestions . ill be throwing the idea around till i get back with the airforce and my money saved back up .

i may have it traded for an rx7 fd shell and 4k, figure that would buy a 2j or ls ive even got a friend with wreck 03 cobra i might look into getting the motor and trans for somthing

Are there any performance gains from doing this? If so then that would make sense. If not then it wouldn't. How much of a performance gain is fun? It's all a matter of what is important to you. I want an agile street owner. I want my car to behave like a Rally Car on the street stages.

Nuff said.

i may just do a built 2.0 with the rods i have daily it and get a new project you think any one would be intested in trading the 5 spd twinplate and built trans case for all stock parts lol
Got a stock trans for ya. 5 speed too. What type of built trans is yours and who did the work?

This Evo was RWD as mentioned previously in the thread. There is actually a video of the entire build on it somewhere on the internets lol.

Personally, I would just look to purchasing a RWD vehicle and selling your evo if you feel you are tired of it and the 2.4L. You'll probably make a few dollars in the process rather than losing a ton of money doing a RWD conversion.

All the cars I have ever owned were AWD and I got curious about RWD. Ended up buying a 350z and still go back to my Evo when it comes to handling. Why remove the one thing the car is praised and sought after for. Kind of like taking the b*lls off a pitbull IMO.
