Turbo Upgrade
Hi members,
Im planning on changing the stock TD05hr to a larger turbo, since my turbo is kinda busted & actually helpless at the moment,
thinking whether to rebuild the turbo (Which is much cheaper) or buy a bigger turbo at once. but my problem is what are the components that i have to change in my Evo VI,
My current mods are,
K&n with 3" Intake,
HKS bov
Exhaust with 3" pipings,
ACL bearings,
Stock injectors,
Stock intercooler with stock pipings,
Stock fuel rail,
Stock ECU
Stock cams
Stock fuelpump,
Stock rods n pistons.
will i be able to run a bigger turbo with stock pistons n rods?
need help please. did a research but couldn't gain much info..

If you stay in the 50-54 lb/min range, your stock motor will be fine provided you have a good tune and enough fuel. Even going back to the old 7 bolt 2G DSMs (the weakest stock rod AFAIK), they can hold 450-500 whp which is up around FP Green territory. Unfortunately I'm not well-versed enough to know what all of your turbo options are.
If you're worried about longevity and reliability don't go above 430-440tq,torque is what breaks engines not horse power,as far as turbo choices goes there are plenty out there,it all depends on your power goals and how much money you are willing to spend to achieve it,FP,CBRD and MAP sell awesome turbos just be ready to spend some cash, they're not cheap,an FP BLACK BB will come out to 3Gs once everything is said and done, another choice is Kinugawa turbos, they're reliable and make good power,i've had my 25G for over a year now and it made 440 at the wheels on an lightly modded 2.0 on 93 oct. ,and 510 at 25psi on 93 oct. so far on my now fully built 2.4LR,so for $830.00 not a bad bang for the buck on a stock replacement bolt in turbo imoTrending Topics

+1 for that, either choice of turbo is a winner.
