supporting your turbo
So i am going to be buying a borla header and i heard one member talk about making sure to support the turbo because this will reduce the chance of cracking the header due to the weight of the turbo. Has anynone built a bracket or done this in any way. Im guessing if u had a bracket you would bolt one end to the tubo and the other to the head or somewhere on the engine that moves (vibrates) with the turbo. Any tips or suggestions welcome

Hmm, I've never done any sort of support on the Evo, but I know this was a huge issue with my turbo RX-8. The log style manifold I was using was known to be prone to cracking because the weight of the turbo would lever on the hot cast iron causing cracks in the same spot over and over. Using a heat safe metal support to reduce the lever action on the manifold certainly couldn't hurt. That being said, I don't think the OEM manifold has any issues with cracking at all, and I'm not sure about the Borla design.

Another reason the stock manifold doesn't have a problem is because it is a cast manifold instead of tube. I have not seen anyone use a bracket to help support their turbo.
on the evo. No aftermarket o2 housings utilize the bracket so its tossed out. It's usually said that if you get a quality made SS manifold (thick walled tubing), it will support the weight of the turbo assy no prob. OEM manifold will support the weight without the support bracket. I cannot say the same of the borla...it may work out for you, it may not.
Stock, ported manifold > Borla. If you're going tube, go big or go home; Shearer, ToxicFab, etc... My favorite part about stock ported manifolds is you can retain the heat shield.

I like the look of the borla and the price im getting it for is under a ported manifold. Im going to an fp green soon also. I would think id see some gains with this tube header on my stock turbo.

I would certainly encourage you to support the Borla, it's "inexpensive" for a reason. Not trying to talk crap about it, but it is what it is.
