Intake Pipe

Can anyone link to a thread that talks about intake pipes?

I tried searching but get pages and pages of for sale threads and nothing about anyone actually installing one, and it's effects.

A few of the ones I've seen for sale talk about idle issues, so that makes me wary. There seem to be lots of options on the market though.

Right now I've got the AMS adapter kit and a K&N cone filter. Nothing wrong with that set up for me other than the filter just sits limply on some of the wires that lead to the MAS. They've worn down some of the filter material and some of the overwrap on the wire bundle. I've taped over it for now but i'm looking for a more permanent solution.

So... if you've got one, do you like it? Any drawbacks? Which one did you chose and why? Would you do it again?

I wouldn't think that by itself it's going to change the airflow characteristics so much that I'd need a retune... anyone have thoughts on that?

I have ran several different intake pipes, Perrin, JMF, Stock, and STM Speed Density pipe. If you are sticking to a MAF setup I suggest keeping the stock pipe and putting money elsewhere. You are not going to see any gains by running a different pipe on a stock turbo.

Does that advice include not running an open-element air filter?

Open filter on the mas with stock rubber intake is fine for a stock turbo.

I'm with evo8426, for the best driveability nothing beats sticking with the stock intake pipe.

I have the rubbing problem too, I just used a thick zip tie to hold the maf, and large filter up.

So any driveability issues? I'm not really looking for gains with this, I'm just annoyed at its .... floppyness

No issues, if you do go with a metal pipe get the STM one over the JMF. My opinion of the JMF pipe was it was shoddy welds and STM was exactly like I would expect from a good shop.

I made a small bracket that mounts to two of the bolts on one side of my MAF housing and uses an existing threaded hole on the fender.
This holds my MAF and filter steady so it cannot rub on wires, hoses, etc.
Used a small piece of metal, drilled a couple holes and bent it to fit how I wanted.
