Supertech Valve spring install question.

When installing the new valve springs do you keep the washer that was underneath the stock valve seat? Thanks installing them right now and this has me at a stand still..

No its not a valve seat, I said the washer that's underneath the stock valve seat. Its a small very thin washer. Please anyone with experience with installing new springs chime in.

So on top of the spring is a retainer, then you have the spring, then you have the seat and then you have a small thin black"washer" Underneath the seat. I'm telling you that is what was on my car. And would like to know if i still need to have it under the "seat"... I'm replacing my stock valve-train with super tech titanium dual springs with Ti Retainers and seats. Also replacing my valve seals.

If the supertechs come with a seat use it. If not use the stock one. That is important.

It's a shim
To achieve the correct seat pressure

Ok, thats what I was thinking but does it need to go back in with the new springs and seats? Does supertech invite the use of this shim with their dual spring setup?

Actually it's a shim for stem height, not pressure as that is determined by the spring.

Are you doing this out of the car, head off?.

If not, check the spring height set up of each spring and valve with a electric sliding guage. If they are all within the same spec you should probably leave that one with the shim in place, put the new spring seat on and assemble like normal.

Checking stem height and guide wear is what I would do if the head was off.

Good luck.

Thank you sir. head is off the block, I'll check the spring height tonight. I'm guessing they should all be around the same specs?

might as well check the spring pressure rate while you're at it!

You increase spring pressure with a shim
You grind valve stems to adjust height...
A shim compresses the spring, but does not move the valve at all..
