Evo VIII Dreams Shattered!
Best Mistu dealer in America...
...Coconut Creek Mistubishi. Triple-diamond rated by MMC-USA. Two chief technicians trained in USA by Mitsu Japan, and only ones that work the EVO out.
*They* installed themselves my Downpipe, HiFlo cat, Catback, Unorthodox SS pulleys and Unorthodox adjustable Camshaft Sprockets, with labor waranty.
*They* resurfaced and finally replaced my front-rotors with new ones, at now charge...
...And *they* will install my HKS 264/264 (planned) camshafts, as well.
...Key take-away: be selective with your dealer and, AT ALL COST, avoid "wannabe-EVO-dealer" type of dealer. Get to know their service manager, enter the service bay, look at the infrastructure and the techs., check out the parking lot out, etc., and you will discover that many MMC dealers out-ther want to sell the EVO, but are not in real condition/shape to properly support maintenance and honor warranty claims.
Good luck, and don't lose your chance of owning and driving the "icon of the decade", as well put by Automobile mag. and Forbes.
Happy racing!

My friend has an STI and they suck in warranty same as EVO. These cars are hard to get them warranteed, just be nice from the begining to the service department and they will help you out.
I wish Mitsubishi U.S.A. would embrace the "tuner scene" and offer in-house customization along with warantee coverage. They would make a boatload of money and probably sell more cars if we knew they could be modded in-house.
My other car, 04 honda accord coupe, the dealer offers install of intakes, exhausts, springs/coilovers, strut/sway bars, headers, body kits, rims, short shifters, etc and these are not genuine honda parts. I was amazed when the sales manager asked if I want to drop the car and put 19s on it when I bought it. They sell new accords, civics, etc already hooked up. They may be an exception, but it proves that it can be done.

If you need other people to influence you in getting the car you want rather than base it on your test drive experience, thats on you.
Most people with STi's that can beat a Stage 1+ EVO or that run 350whp have aftermarket turbos. I want to see you get the engine waranteed after that when it breaks.
Good luck w your life and make sure to get back in giving Yoshar over here some head....

Bumsarama, I agree with your view of Mitsubishi's ****ty service and over all lack of morals, but unfortunately I do not believe there are any manufactures that are much better – Subaru included. I’ve seen numerous threads on the Subaru forums about their bs service. Do you know about the drama around the wrx’s transmission failures? I’ve seen plenty of treads on the Subaru forums where broken transmissions were denied warranties on the basis that the tread on the tires were too worn all around. The dealer’s excuse was the car must have been involved in spirited driving. Transmission warranty denied based on TIRE WEAR! Transmission warranty work on the Subaru also required a regional rep to investigate and approve the work. Do a search on nasioc and find people who had to take Subaru to court and won.
I’m not trying to convince you to get an evo. I could care less about you do, and both the evo and sti are great cars. All I’m saying is if you believe Subaru is the hallmark of car manufactures then you are greatly mistaken.

I can see where you all are coming from, it's BS to buy a $30,000 car with a warranty and hardly be able to use it. But you also have to look at it from Mitsus perspective, the car was warranteed as a stock vehicle. They can't be paying out for crappy installs on your parts, inproper mods, things that put too much stress on stock internals etc etc. I do agree it's BS if they won't repair a faulty brake because you have a boost gauge.
I hear Subaru is no better. They will void your warranty at the first sign of moddage. But again all dealers are different. Some are large enough that they can be more free with their warranty service, others can't, or don't want to.
i am my own warranty station. Period. I have saved myself thousands of dollars over the years by educating myself to fix any vehicle i have ever owned. If it breaks and they deny me, i just fix it myself. Am i rich?? not even close. Make 27500 with the Feds. But remember all the money i saved doing my own repairs over the years??? That ****s sittin in the bank to back me up!!! Life flies by but once, dont let the paranoia sour it. Respect it, drive it, mess it up then fix it..........respect it, drive it and on and on......

The only thing that keeps the clutch lasting as long as it does is knowing you break it, you buy it.

installing a damn clutch and differentials that can take the power and awd in the first place. And don't anybody try to say some mess about clutch dropping or minor bolt on mods. The evo is a sports car that most people mod. Hell, did
not put in there own advertisement "go forth and modify". Its not that hard to engineer something corretly.BTW, Quaife warrenties their differentials even if you race.
Nice Input
Thanks for all the input so far guys, especially the guys who just couldnt resist but to call me a sissy, unintelligent, etc. I knew that was coming anyway. I understand some of you views as far as clutch abuse and Subaru also denying warranties, but it is definitely not as bad as Mitsu. The transmission failure related to tire wear incident is the biggest bunch of crap ever. Whoever denied work on that ought to be burned at the stake. It shows even more that Subaru is not the holy grail. Nonetheless, I currently have a Subaru which has probably seen about $4300 of warranty work in the couple of times I have taken it to 3 different Subaru dealers for various issues. I was pissed off enough about having issues already, nevermind the fact that they took care of it without hassle which atleast made it understandable and bearable. They never said a thing about my minor mods (intake, K&N filter, sway-bar). The way I see it, if the engine goes out on the Evo- a aftermarket exhaust is to blame. The dealer cant even touch the damn Evo's without Mitsu's approval. Even if the dealer was cool with the work, Mitsu is being an @$$ and will veto it. Keep the input coming, even the flaming, it all intrigues me and makes me see different perspectives.

I think we just need education w this car or any AWD car launches in the first place. Have you seen the Zonda vs. Lambo Murcielago by Top Gear? He says w AWD vehicles, you must let it roll for a little bit, then nail it, otherwise youll cook the clutch. What do we do? The exact opposite. We're talking about the Murcielago here. > $200,000, and you cant launch/sling it like what you want to do w the EVO? hmmmm....
Dealers are the ones who are *********, I dont think its Mitsu. But how can you (Mitsu) bite the hand that feeds you (dealers)? They need better management here in the USA.
Nevertheless, the guys who posted pictures here having fun w their VIIs dont even get offered the warrantee that we get.
Get the car that you think is better and what will give you the pleasure of driving it.
Will an STi do that over the EVO. Everybody knows, even subie owners, that the EVO is funner to drive.

Almost every experienced Racer, Adults, daily drivers, and other people who drive properly and understand warrenty policy have no complaints.
A lot of these complaints are from kids who do not understand that racing will not be warrentied.
The children also do not drive very well.
Mitsu does not stock racers at the race track. That is crap posted by EVO haters.
Don't blame the dealers file complaints on the district reps because they approve the check that pays for your warrenty repair!
5500 miles. No complaints. Car is much stronger than it looks.
