You have been watching the boards for awhile??

Look..

You can't judge the potential ownership experience of the EVO by what you read here..Were all a bunch of blowasses for the most part talking **** about a car we LOVE ..Seriously.

There is a lot of good information here to read and make decisions on but I for one am tired of reading about the clutch bull**** and how all the dealers suck ***..WHATEVER!!!

And so becuase there is less posts about a clutch or whatever over at subie land you feel that that is a better car??

That makes NO sense...I have news for you bud..The EVO is the car of the decade for a reason..actually, for a LOT of reasons.

Either own the Evo for your OWN reasons and want to drive the best performance sedan for the money because you WANT TO. ..

Funny you mention that b/c when i went to look at an evo the salesman told me I could change out the intake and gain a bunch of horse power. Then I asked if that would void the warrenty and he put his finger over his lips as to shush me

I'm so over these crap warranty threads. I have never had a problem and my dealer goes out of his way to make sure I am satisfied. My Infiniti dealer's service was insulting. Hello, one of the best J.D. Power nameplate's absolutely sucking dick.

My dealer keeps me happy besause I'm not an *** and am mature and cordial when dealing with him. Thats it.

Most of the crackers on these boards are just as much of *******s to their dealers as they are on the boards...which explains a lot.

I can see it now, dude screeches up in an Evo with a big ole fart pipe, wu tang clan blastin, looking like vanilla ice talkin bout his clutch went out when he was trying to learn to get his best 60. And, I'm a big a-hole if I don't fix it cause his mom is gonna get me with her lawyer and blah blah blah. Ya, I'm gonna want to fix that thing....

Who cares....it doesn't matter if you tell him that you think the evo is the best car of the decade...just wish him good luck and be on with it. Both cars are nice, it doesn't really matter. As long as you're happy with it, the car served it's purpose.

Hey, he might have lurked before registering. I know I lurked for like a year before I actually registered.

Anyways, someone made a good point about underestimating the number of idiots out there. You really need to go out and see how people drive stick to understand what I'm talking about. When the average person says they know how to drive manual, they can't. The average person slips the clutch more than they need to. The average person can't engage the clutch at the correct point in time. Any idiot that claims to be "good at driving" will not touch my car. I'm at 14K now, stock clutch, still going strong. Just install a SS clutch line, and remove the restrictor if you like, for better engagement feel.

I'd love to get in the car with some of the guys here (not saying everyone is an idiot) who are burning out clutches under 5K... and this clutch issue has nothing to do with "driving like a grandma," you either know how to use the clutch, or you don't. I've been to the strip about twice now, and done a fair number of autox, so it's not like my car hasn't seen some action. Don't let the wailing stories of a kids who don't know how to drive turn you away from the car.

I will agree however, that Mitsu's service would appear to be rather shabby. My dealer so far has been very compliant with my mods - turboback exhaust + EBC + SAFC. I have since sold the EBC + SAFC in favor of the XEDE though. In any case, see if you can't find another dealer around your area. Your service manager is wrong when he says he can't control what is warrantied - that's all done in the dealership. There are some pretty amazing stories here of awesome dealerships doing major aftermarket mods (like the one in this thread) and others who have been replacing rotors like no tomorrow. You just gotta find the right dealer.

Just got back from the dealer..
19,000 miles and he said the clutch is one of the strongest feeling clutches he has felt so far..

Knock on wood, I would bet my clutch goes to 50,000 miles or more..

Why shoudn't it??! I mean, the clutch in the EVO isn't designed to fail at any set mileage..Why wouldn't it last?

The driver, thats why..

Almost all manufacturers will fight you tooth and nail with warranty work, especially on performance vehicles. Your best bet is to always stand your ground and be stern. Unless it is obviously your fault for any failure, you can usually win most warranty claims by talking to the service manager.

If they find you're a nuisance, it's in their best interest to simply repair your car rather than fight and argue with you.

The car is solid as a rock my dealer is cool and OK with modes as long as the turbo is stock and the block is not cracked open.Your lose, and goodluck if you think Suby is any better, it just sounds like the dealer your dealing with is a dick look for a new one.

I think the AWD has a lot to do with the clutch failures. I smelled the clutch in my car only once I was in a situation where in a RWD vehicle (240z ) the wheels would have spun (my expectation) but the AWD did not spin the wheels and my conditioning from driving RWD had me slip the clutch to keep the RPMs up until I would get wheelspin. Anyhow, smell went away two days later, learned a lesson, and 5k miles since that day and clutch is still strong. I do think I will get the SS line to improve the clutch feel.

My dealer is ok with mods, I asked about a cat-back and they said fine. The service techs own EVOs with mods.

I was getting ready to purchase an Evo and called up the service department to ask what they would think of me putting an intake or exhaust on the vehicle. They immediately told me that it would void the warranty. He also told me that Mitsubishi had been sending a great deal of info lately to dealers about ways to void the warranty. I know many of you out there are going to talk all kinds of bogus crap... It is just that with one of them I can reasonably rest assured that the manufacturer will take care of me and the car. It wasnt the Evo itself that has now made me decided not to purchase it, it was Mitsubishi itself and I hope it burns in hell for bringing us such a great car but making it such misery to keep. I would still like to see any feedback you guys might have. I hate Mitsubishi!

The only bogus crap is what's in your post. Mitsubishi is not sending anything to dealers about ways to void the warranty. Either you were lied to about that or for some reason you feel the need to make up stories. Either way it's completely false. Our service department does every repair under warranty that doesn't show obvious abuse. Having previously worked at a Subaru store I can tell you that they also examine every claim carefully and deny the ones that are abuse.

What you have is a car that has a larger than average number of immature drivers who think they are hot **** when they are really dumb ****. That's obvious from all the racing and speed stories on public highways. They abuse their car and then cry about it when they can't scam the service department. The Evo is a great car and is backed as well as any car on the market. Take care of your equipment and your equipment will take care of you.

Totally right about the warranty issues. There is a Subie dealer out on the Island, Metric I believe its called. As long as they install the after market parts your waranty is good. As far as mitsu is concerned. If I bring my car to the dealer beacuse my radio dont work, and they tell me oh you have a after market exhaust so the warranty is void. I will shoot everybody there. Just joking but that cant void the warranty. I know for a fact that my powertrain warranty is NIL. But thats it the rest of the car is covered for another 20k miles. I am also shocked to see that alot of young kids driving around in Evo's and Sti's. For some this is their first stick shift car. People have to understand that these are not hondas. Before I brought my Evo I had a Starion, 88Mx6, Galant vr4 and a Turbo Toyota Supra. All my cars have been turbo. All of them Modded. PEOPLE power is nothing without control. I have my car with 16k miles and not a single issue. I mean I get the occasional check engine light. but thats it. Also these young wipple snappers are crashing their evos at an alarming rate. Thus insurance will go up soon. gees sorry just my 5cents

Clutch or engine... take your pick. Both cars have their issues. Check out this thread regarding the STi
