Evo VIII Dreams Shattered!
You have to pay to play, if you have a stock car and something happens they will fix it UNLESS you were drag racing, at a track or doing something like that. Hell people come on it's not that hard to understand

My other car, 04 honda accord coupe, the dealer offers install of intakes, exhausts, springs/coilovers, strut/sway bars, headers, body kits, rims, short shifters, etc and these are not genuine honda parts. I was amazed when the sales manager asked if I want to drop the car and put 19s on it when I bought it. They sell new accords, civics, etc already hooked up. They may be an exception, but it proves that it can be done.

this would be awesome... but alas, with mitsu's financial problems, they can't realistically embrace the tuner scene without drastically losing money on the inherent problems with modded cars... honda, toyota, ****... they **** money after drinking water.
I think that it's you who's trying to justify why not buy the Evo.
If you have been following this board then there's no need for this thread because you already know everything.
Just get the damn Subaru and you'll sleep better

You fell into the trap. i remember when i used to visit the forums all i saw was bad posts about the EVO. Then realized it was the same people posting over and over. You rarely see a positive post. Oh on a side note i remember when my brother had gotten his rims on his WRX. Not to long after his ECU farted out. They towed it to a dealer around the corner and refused to work on it because it had different rims LOL. I AM NOT JOKING. they towed it to the dealer he bought it from and fixed. Then he had to file against the first dealer with subaru etc.......... I mean come now no matter what car you drive something will always be wrong with it. And its no secret most dealers are scum and will void your warranty so you have to pay. but all in all in one less EVO on the road which is fine with me.
The clutch is a wear item, I would never expect
to replace my clutch if I am launching the car all the time and abusing it.
Buy a better clutch and move on. I don't see what the whole problem is
As for the warranty, I plan on keeping my car pretty much stock for about 8 to 9 months. If anything breaks that isn't suppose to and my local dealer won't fix it then I'll just try another dealership. But once I start modifing this car I don't expect Mitsu to warranty anything on the car. If you play then prepare to pay.

The worst built, most unreliable car I ever owned was a brand new '97 Corvette. It was in the shop so many times, I was convinced it was the biggest POS ever made. Funny thing was...any time I would talk to other C5 owners about all the probs I was having, they'd look at me like I was crazy. They thought it was the best built car they ever owned. Just goes to show there are lemons out there in all makes & models. Any reputable Mitsubishi dealer wants you TOTALLY SATISFIED with the service you receive from their Service Dept! A mature curtious approach/presentation of a mechanical problem will be addressed or you just go up the chain of command. Buy the car that gets your heart racing, the one you can't wait to drive, the one you park, then look back at it at least once after you walk away. Both cars are for serious enthusiasts only. Good luck!
I asked this on another thread and have yet to see the response: Please quote for me the pertinent part of the Mitsubishi warrantee that allows them to void your coverage for doing what your car was made to on a track: accelerate, brake, turn. Last time I checked, that's the only things a car will do on a drag strip or road course. Abuse - now that's a clear case for denial.
Please, those who comment on warrantee denial and whatnot, please understand the basic law that governs them before you go posting misinformation.
Dealers will try to get away with as much as a stupid customer will let them. If you like a car, don't let alleged warrantee denials stop you from buying it. Fight for your rights and don't take no for an answer.

I look at the clutch issue this way. If there was a problem with our clutches, Mitsubishi would have put a different clutch or improved clutch in the new RS model and 04 Evo. We don't know yet, but i bet it's the same clutch. That tells me it's fine for a 30k car if driven properly.
As for mods, my dealer said their techs are paid and trained to work on STOCK cars and not have to troubleshoot parts that they did not install. That tells me your warantee is not really voided, it's they dont want to work on it. Can you blame them?

I honestly think Mitsu is taking alot of people on a ride and stealing you guys of your money. Think about it, there are laws against such garbage. If what he said was true about "mitsu figuring ways to deny warranty..." Thats bogus and we need to fight back. Id like to see a mitsu dealer tell me that my engine blue up because I had a air freshner!

Just amazes me at how "brave" some people are hiding behind their key boards...........
I have just over 2K on my Evo and I love it, no problems so far. Most of the negative posts you see are the "Squeeky Wheel Syndrome". It's a great car and you will love it but so is the Subi. I really don't think you could go wrong either way, but do get the car you really want, don't settle. Either way, good luck.

The number ONE reason I did not want to purchase the Evo was the clutch and all the warrany denials.

Those are good points to bring up. The warranty, reliability & customer service are very important points to consider when buying a car. I've not had any problems yet after over 18K miles, but I do think the clutch is a little weak....
It's true that some dealers have a tendency to do everything possible to deny warranty claims, and
has a particularly poor reputation as a manufacturer as well as poor customer support from dealers. I actually never considered the EVO until I made the mistake of seeing one in the show room
(I bought it immediately
).Also, I do have some experience with the Subaru service and Voile's Subaru in Marietta was fantastic in their customer service. they treated me very well and never were less than extremely helpful whenever I took WRX in for service and a couple of minor issues. I don't have the same feeling about the
dealerships.....As far as all the ppl out there calling names and putting the man down for his doubts, please get real. All the lemon laws, warranties, lawyers and letters to the higher echelons will get you nothing if the dealer or service rep is not on your side from the beginning. There is no way to make them honor the warranties if they dont want to. You can go through hell trying to get justice or satisfaction if they don't want to give it to you. I've been around that block before and I never want to do it again.
Still,m I'm very happy with my EVO and it's proven to be quite reliable so far. As long as I don't have problems, the warranty issue is not important. Of course, YMMV, etc.

Dude,
It's all about the dealers. Where I am from the subaru dealer sucks, they were plain rude and made retaded claims (oh yea this sti will KILL the Evo, hell it can KILL a 911 turbo!).
On the other hand, my Mitsu dealer treats me like a king because I own an evo. In my area the Evo is rare as hell, I only know of 4 in the whole city.
It's not the car its all about your dealer. If the mitsu dealer sucks where you are and the subi dealer is cool, but the subi you will be happier.
