Keep the ix or meet the x?

Ok so here's my dilemma as I am here for advice? I currently own a GG IX MR SE with tasteful mods and 54/k miles. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sa...r-mileage.html. I feel as though the car has become outdated and an annoyance to drive lately so I was thinking of getting a new x. The problem is I would definitely do the basic bolt ons to achieve 350-375whp and definitely upgrade the suspension to a set of quality coil overs and possibly a new set of wheels as well. I just don't know if going to a x is worth it financially or if I should just clean up my ix with maybe a few exterior mods like a JDM rear new lip spoiler and a quieter exhaust. I feel like the ix interior is so outdated and the exterior is getting to be to rice looking for my me. It feels small and almost box like. I know I have some great parts in the car like the suspension and pretty much everything else and would hate to spend more on modifying. I would have some money leftover after the purchase to mod but don't know if I should just keep it since its almost payed off or take a plunge into the x. I want to do some track day events and the car is setup pretty well for it now. It's also nice to own a car when you track in case of a possible accidents since insurance companies don't cover tack events. On the other hand new evo with a clean slate and no imperfections is very attractive. Especially since its larger and bit more comfortable for dd. I also think the x style is a bit more of my taste as I am getting a bit older. Don't know what to do? I feel like if I keep the ix a turbo upgrade might be an idea to bring back that interest again. Thoughts?

I wouldn't do it. The interior of the X seems less attractive after seeing several in person and being inside of them.

Get the car tuned on e85 and you will feel a huge difference in power and won't need to change the turbo out for something big and laggy.

Modding an X will make it just as annoying to drive.

If you want a more modern car then do it, a turbo on the IX wont help with that.

I like the SSL package on the X, the MR seats in a GSR model are nice too. A new car is always fun to start with, but like Mistaken said, if you start modding it you will lead yourself right back down the same path of love/hate with the car.

Do it..I was in the same place about a year ago.. I made the move to a X and Over all its a better car. Doesnt feel like you are driving a tin-can. Now keep in mind I loved my 9.. and I would love to own another, but I wouldnt sell my X for it.

- The interior on a X feels better (Still cheap, but it also Looks better)
- Seats are better on a X
- Mod for Mod it makes more power.

Only thing I would think about if I was you is that if your goals are over 450whp.. stick with the 9.. The stock Engine on the X is perfect if you keep it around 425whp/375wtq.

Also the two cars are VERY VERY different, Drive a modded X and you will see why. The 9 gave a Pure Torque rush and you feel the kick more, while the X is more linear on the power.

Styling goes to the X, even though I think evo 9 stands out more.

In the end.. This is all My Opinion, I am not trying to raise a war over the two cars with anyone as they are both absolutely Awesome machines and I would love to own both.

Oh another factor I considered was Safety... the X is WAY WAY safer in case of impact.

i think you'll miss the IX if you go to a X, plus like you said it's almost paid off and pretty much ready to track. The raw nature of the IX and non-linear speed delivery is more fun

While the x is fun I like the raw feedback the 8-9 give you when your tracking them. The x does have some good features and is eaqualy fun to drive I just enjoy the 8-9 more. I think it's all a prefferance on your part because they are both great cars. Plus think what you could do to the 9 with no car payment. Just one mans opinion. Good luck with your choice.

Keep your 9 the evo x engine you will have to sleeve if you ever want to make alot of power and with the the 9 you don't have the problem do buy a cheap dd when the evo is paid off and build a beast

I think modding is coming to an end. The only thing I would entertain is a FP red or bbk. I don't want a built motor plus I wouldn't spend the cash unless I blew mine. I just saw a x in pb on the road, I think it just looks more modern. I feel like the ix looks so old school, maybe it's me? I understand if I mod the x it will become annoying, but I also think I would do it different. No cams, quiet exhaust with HFC, ecu control boost, hidden gauges and a quality suspension with exterior and done. I wasn't aware if the x ding so linear throughout the powerband, that must be pretty boring on a stock turbo. I'm sure if you put a larger turbo it would take care of it. I drove a x already and it definitely handles nice but its obviously lacking the power considering what I have now. Power isn't everything either comfort also plays a large part.

Two ways to look at modding:

1. Modding for a better drive, then enjoying driving the car from that time on. There's rarely a sense of disappointment, as the modding is a means to an end and the drive (in itself) is the object of affection.

2. Modding for the sake of modding: This always results in dissatisfaction, as the ultimate goal of an automobile - ie. what the thing actually is and what it actually does - is not the object of the pursuit. One can never be happy, because the car is just a prop for something entirely different. Automotively speaking, it's pissing money into the wind.

BTW, I agree with the comment.

I'm sure the X is a great car but I've read many posts from X owners saying they wish they kept their IX, thats why I bought my used IX when I definately could have bought a new X.

If you have to ask it's probably time to move on. Life is short if your not totally happy it's important to continue your personal quest for your automotive holy Grail.
