Approaching 300k!!
I remember seeing your classified advert back when you were selling that car. I thought it was fantastic how clean and well cared for the car was, despite it's frequent autocross use, loved what you did with it.
Seems everyone I know personally with MR's have no issues with the 6speeds, even at higher power levels and "enthusiastic" driving. I'm beginning to think the 'weak' 6spd and 'weak' stock clutch discussions dating back years ago aren't all too accurate.
I'm sure OP will substantiate this too, being he had the stock clutch in his 'grandpa' for ~200K miles. (Don't quote me on that, I'm trying to recall from another thread)
Comes down to maintenance.

Yeah, I have been trying to debunk the whole weak stock clutch thing as BS from day one. If your clutch goes out in 20k miles, it's because you can't drive, period. I got around 75k out of mine with plenty of launching, autocrossing, and general vehicular tomfoolery. As for the weak 6 speed argument, the problem with the 6 speed comes into play on the road course because of heat. The gears are just as strong, but it can overheat on a road course, and 4th gear is the gear that usually fails. External tranny cooler should fix that. I loved my old 6 speed. The one I have now wasn't taken care of very well, and the previous owner put a TERRIBLE clutch in the car, and it shows. That will be rectified soon enough though.
Im really enjoying this thread, I have an 06 MR and i'm at 104K. No oil leaks, doesnt use oil, never left me stranded. Only thing I've replaced while I owned the car (bought ewnd of 2010 with 65K) is alt and alt belt. Mind you I stayed on top of fluid changes with OEM fluids and 3K oil changes. Other than that I'm at almost 500hp DD and NO issues, with cluth or anything.

However I have to say, both times I've changed my tcase oil I used the "improper method", and was always able to get the correct amount in.
Yea i should of mentioned the launching part haha. And by "improper filling techniques" i didnt mean filling it through the fill hole is the "wrong method".. Thats the way I do it. The other ways are too much of a hassle IMO and messy.. What I meant was, half the people don't realize you need to drive around or wait 20 min, to top off to the correct fluid amount. I always keep track of the amount i'm putting just to be sure.. I only say this, because of the several t-case units i've rebuilt, that was the culprit of why their ring & pinion was shot... I've never personally rebuilt a t-case that had a blown diff (spider gears) from launching.. But i've heard of many stories though, particularly in 03-04 models.

I would add "launching the crap out of it" to that list.

I thought: fill through fill hole until full, drive around shortly, check level.
something I missed perhaps?
