MAF replacement/fail

Vehicle:
2001 Mitsubishi Evolution 7 (Jap Import)

Problem:
Recently my "Check Engine" light has come on.
with this came a lack of power at +>50% throttle. It's like as soon as it's meant to spool, it fails, BUT I can heard the turbo pulling.

I believe the MAF has failed. I'd like to use another one to test if it was the issue.
What model Mitsubishi's can plug and play with the MAF.
I've currently got access to:
* 1. A Legnum (Codes on-top of MAF are different)
* 2. A Evo 6.5 (Havnt checked if it has a MAF still)

Also, YES I did clean it with contact cleaner recently! I understand that it's a NO NO, but I read many people on this forums using it with success!

Questions:
What models are swappable?
Will any MAF work even with slightly different part numbers? (They look the same and have the same plug.)

How sure are you, that your MAF is bad? Have you pull codes via OBD? This sounds like your Lower intercooler or one of your pipes blew off. Evos pipes are infamously known to blow off stock. GL

No, I havn't pulled codes yet. I dont have a OBD, but that is a good idea. Is there anyway I can test the MAF?
Is a same year model Lancer goes to have one that's compatible?

Funny that actually!

very recently (just before the issue), I was washing my EVO with a high pressure hose. The car had been running for awhile and was very hot.
I sprayed the car, scrubbed it and then went to rinse it again.

The second time I sprayed it, I heard a BANG sound coming from the front engine bay. I am unsure what made the sound, but I was spraying/Aiming the hose at the front right hand side head-light. (drivers side for me in Australia, but to make it clean for my US friends, the side with the cam gears away from the air-box and battery.)

Now, I checked everything as soon as it happened.... couldn't see anything wrong, nor was I missing inter-cooler piping. come to thing of it tho, the problem happen directly after this point. I just figured it was a sensor due to the "check engine light".

So, have a cracked the inter-cooler or piping from heating up and cooling down rapidly? Where should I look? what should I do?

It's kinda hard to visually see a boost leak because the coupler will be touching the pipe but it isn't clamped properly. To make a boost leak tester check this out.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...er-5-02-a.html

Once you make one, you need an air compressor and something to inflate tires with. Take your intake off, set your compressor to around 30psi, put the boost leak tester on the cold side of the turbo and make sure that it's clamped down.

Use the air compressor to pressurize the pipes. It will make a high pitched whine if you have one. If it's a bigger leak it will be lower pitched.
