So I go out to my car the other morning hop in cut it on (it's fairl chilly I would say 30-30 degrees) my back window is iced over so I cut my car on cut on my defroster and once It is visible enough for me to see I begin to drive. All of a sudden piece by piece my rear window begins to fall apart until its mostly fallen out into tiny tiny shard. I mean super small shards.

First off I would like to know how that happened? It had no prior cracks.

Second how the hell do I find a rear windshield for an evo 8! I have looked everywhere

The shop that is suppose to do my rear windshield can't find a lancer evo one he can only find lancer ones which will not work due to my rear wiper...

I looked on an oem part site and they want 6-700!! that's insane

Also yes I know lancer windshields fit the evo but I was hoping to keep my wiper deleting it was a last resort but I will if I have too (obviously)

I have searched and searched please help

 

Im sure Safelite can find you a window. they can crack from going from cold to hot so fast. this just happen to someone about a month ago

 

whaaaat this is nuts, its around that temp now here in TN! Makes me not want to drive my car. Why does the lancer not accept the rear wiper? didnt know that...

 

I wonder if this has to do with the rear window. Campus police were waiting at my car when I got back because they thought someone broke in told them what happened supposedly another (yellow) evo on campus had the same thing happen from supposedly the cold

Heat transfer is all I can think of or really believe.

-I went ahead and ordered a non wiper one and just decided to delete my wiper because I need a windshield asap :/

 

Just for future reference, most of the major glass companies have their own "manufacturing" that they do, so windscreens are hard to find.

BUT, they will get one for you if they have to. You just need to be nice to them, and make sure they understand the vehicle is a bit more rare.

To be clear... the Evo uses a special "lighter" glass for the windscreens than the Lancer, as well as the rear wiper port for the Evo.

If you want to get OEM glass (or as I told my insurance company "You mean the glass that is actually FOR my car") you just need to make sure not to budge. Any insurance payout is a negotiation, and you either get what you want, or you don't.
