With a 10.5 housing on it you can make near 400 so why spend 400 on an ef1? I made 357 on an 8 turbo with a 10.5 housing before any port work was done. That was on hks 272s with gsc or kelford 274s and the port work i would be damn close to 400. Torque was 354. Again same story probably get near 400 on the 8 turbo, but dont expect it to last long at the boost you have to run to get that. Im just using me as an example. It was tuned @27psi boost has been increased to 29psi since lol.

I'm just going to stick with stock personally. Get my new one ported and polished, get the manifold ported and polished, run supporting mods on pump gas, up the boost to 22-23psi and whatever I hit is what I hit. I daily drive, I don't race or track the car. I've said it to many local guys, even evotuner up there - if I hit 380whp mustang dyno I would be happy. Anything more is just icing on the cake. Or whip cream on the pie.

awdordie - can you post your current mods for the evo viii with 10.5 hotside?

I just purchased a evo viii with the following mods:

Engine & Fuel:

Black AEM Cam Gears
Gates Kevlar Timing Belt
Zaklee Clear Cam Cover
Stock 2005 VIII Turbo (10.5 hotside)
Kelford 272 cams
OEM Mitsu Head Gasket
L19 Head Studs
Walbro 255HP fuel pump

Ignition, Intake & Exhaust:

HKS DLI-II Ignition Amplifier
EVO IX Metal Blowoff Valve
ETS 2.5" Upper and Lower Intercooler Pipes
AMS 3.75" FMIC
Samco Intake Pipe w/ MAF adapter & K&N intake
Hallman Pro MBC Black
Buschur 3" Stainless Catback Exhaust for JDM 9 Rear Bumper
Stainless 3" Downpipe
Stainless 3" Resonated Test Pipe

My power goals have always been ~400awhp daily driver. I was thinking of making the jump to the IX turbo for the price and street characteristics. But if it's possible to gain close to my goal numbers with the current turbo with better supporting mods. That would be an easier option.

I was told:

"Car made 304 wheel hp on a dyno dynamics dyno

Reads 7-12% lower than a dyno jet" - PO

I am unsure the boost level this was at. I do plan on getting a future re-tune. I would like to get supporting mods and a few things taken care of because I don't like dishing out $$ everytime.

tuned by mellon on ecuflash and on the virtual dyno which is about the same as a dynojet from what ive read and is fairly accurate. mellon racings evo made like 707hp on a dynojet, and on the vd it was around 690hp or so.

I laid down around 390/400 on buschurs dyno with a stock 8 using ported 10,5 hotside. Buschur 2.3 and all supporting mods on e85 @ 26psi

You can make 400 on a 9 turbo, ef1 sounds like a big hassle for marginal gain

My original engine pulled 339 on the mustang dyno on regular pump gas. It was very reliable and good on gas. I am running 532 hp now and I am thinking of my next upgrade. So if you are going for big hp then start with your engine if not keep it under 380 hp and enjoy your car!
I made the mistake of pushing my stock motor too much and paid the price. I do have a fp green turbo that worked very nicely with my stock motor/manifold. Good luck.
