What Would You Pay?

In my search for another evo I have found one local to me. It's a 2003 with 106k miles. The car has a gt35r, apexi exhaust, hks cams, jdm rear, 7 tails, and so on. I road in the car today and it idled pretty smooth and pulled nicely. The drawback is it does have a possible front passenger side strut clunk (clunks when turning hard left), worn drivers seat, little paint from previous owner on front grill and grinds 5th WOT shifting (no grind when smoothly shifting).

I will need this car to take an 1800 mile trip off the bat, before I go buying it I will take it for inspection and compression test. The owner is wanting 13k (torn between selling it but his insurance is 380 a month) I am considering offering 10k giving that I will have to put some money into it and the miles. Opinions?

PS if there is a value thread on here I couldn't find it so mods please move this if need be.

I think you can find a better one for 13k even if he did take 10 for it. You know the car was abused especially with a 35r, whether he admits it or not. And its high miles. But in the end its your choice.

I paid 14 for 112,xxx miles. But mine was also nearly bone stock (intake & catback)

Find an unmolested one (I know, it's damn near impossible)

Some people act like these cars are worthless unless they have 50k miles or less. How is 13k a bad price for an evo.

I'm positive the previous owner told you that he only used his car to drive grandma to church.

Why does 90% of this forum think that stock evos never went into boost even once?

Evos, unless im mistakem here, are performance cars. Just because its modded shouldnt make it worthless. Theyre meant to be used like a performance car. Some people talk like theyre fragile.

Yeah I'm debating.. I want to find a bone stock 8 or 9 badly but it's hard. None are where I'm at, It has been used that's for sure. I want an evo below 20k right now to last me for awhile. That may of been a contradiction though. I am going to give him a week to decide if he will sell to me.

If he will then I'll have it inspected, compression tested and boost leak if I can, if he won't no big deal I'll find another in New Mexico.

So you're telling me that a stock evo 9.5 16G has the same reliability as a GT35R? Hahahaha funny joke.

And actually, the previous owner was honest with me. He did race it, he did launch it, but not on a daily basis. I personally checked the car out, top to bottom, side to side, and I thought it was worth the money.

If he put a GT35R on it with cams, he obviously got bit by the bug. I'm not saying the car is completely worthless, I'm just saying... He got bit by the bug. It's been abused.

Thats a fair price. But expect to pay ~$1,000 for the transmission overhaul (especially replace the 5th gear synchro's), not including the labor to take it out/ in. The compression test should give more information about the health of the motor. If the compression test, checks out good, I would try to bargain the guy to the $12,000 range.. $10,000 is a low blow offer IMO.

I don't know about you, but I bought my Evo for me until that car had enough and spontaneously decided to explode and is used as scrap metal in its afterlife. It's worth more to me than what someone says the resale value is.
