Do you guys ever get scared your evo will break down on the road? If so does the paranoia make you keep something like a set of tools or do you guys just rely on road side assistance?

Pretty much all the time. I find myself listening to car noises more than music.

I'm going to make a good assumption that you're not the only one

x2

I've spent alot on maintenance, not because I had to, but because I wanted to.

New Coilovers
New Rear Sway Bar + Bushings
New Trailing Arm Bushings
New Rear Diff
New Turbo
New Injectors
New Tune + Retune
New Tires
New Brakes all around
New FMIC
New LICP
New Exhaust
New Gauges / Boost Control / Cosmetics

If I didn't spend any money on any of that ^^ I would say I could've gotten away with maybe $1,200 worth of parts/labor in the last year (including tires because my old tires were horrible). These cars are pretty sturdy from the factory, and not much will go wrong when it's in stock form. Once you start getting into the motor, that's when it can get pricey

I'm re-doing the maint. items on my stock Evo (just to get to know the car and piece of mind). It's all fairly inexpensive except for the timing belt/water pump/etc. Up here it's about $1500 every 60K Miles.

The rest is actually fun thearpy

Me too. I always think I'm hearing a new noise. I just try not to drive myself crazy. As far as maintenance I have a old ford escort to drive most days so I don't drive the evo more than 3 days a week which helps keep the miles down. I don't change fluids myself so it does get pricey when it's time to do it though. There are a lot of fluids to change in our cars.

Wouldn't it have the same amount as any other car?

A lot of other cars don't have rear diffs, tc, etc. And don't forget that blinker fluid!

You're putting together a nice car but the topic here is cost of maintenance. The only maintenance items on your list are tires and brakes.

Exactly why I said the only maintenance I've done is probably $1200 for tires and brakes. Then the $80 oil change every other month or so.

as others have mentioned your main concern should be fuel. besides that the 60k service is the biggest ticket item for maintenance. timing belt, water pump, etc

The mod bug sucks too! unless you get a SE or a IX interior. I personally would put that on high priority for DD comfort!

I just came back f r om the euroscene and remember this: look at current exchange rate. You are paying to import oem, exhange rate and you cant just go to autozone for oil or fluids in general. **** was annoying!!!

Yes. I owned a IX SSL previously and now own a viii that has been upgraded to the IX recaro with alcantara middle. So much better than the original viii with the blue style center. They sit the same but the look is night and day.

Have you started looking? I have sat in many evos during my search and just couldn't look past it.

This is a personal preference issue but you can obviously upgrade if you find the right VIII for the right price and condition or even available!

BTW, My bosses/co-workers own a RS4, S4, Q7, 2012WRX and extremely surprised that the interior isn't what they expected. Most think evos will have cheap look/feel but with the upgrade. It's definitely a plus. Plus most people are very shocked how well the Recaros hug you.
