Maintenance Costs
Yes. I owned a IX SSL previously and now own a viii that has been upgraded to the IX recaro with alcantara middle. So much better than the original viii with the blue style center. They sit the same but the look is night and day.
Have you started looking? I have sat in many evos during my search and just couldn't look past it.
This is a personal preference issue but you can obviously upgrade if you find the right VIII for the right price and condition or even available!
BTW, My bosses/co-workers own a RS4, S4, Q7, 2012WRX and extremely surprised that the interior isn't what they expected. Most think evos will have cheap look/feel but with the upgrade. It's definitely a plus. Plus most people are very shocked how well the Recaros hug you.

The X recaros especially in straight cloth don't look as good as the IX MR/SE, IMO. Like I said, this is an opinionated debate/preference so if you like it then that's all that matters!!! But like jager stated, it's "way better than the original".
Is it the comfort level or style, jager?
Sorry, I just noted it is a little off topic as this is a maintenance thread.

tires 800-1300$
align 250$
60k 1500-1900$ professionally done.
Brakes 400
oil 30/40 bucks
Diaqueen lsd 50$
Diaqueen Trns 100$.
I consider washing and cleaning my car part of service. If you use off the shelf crap it will be cheaper so will the results. But if you use Sonax/Einzett/Adams/Wolf's ect it gets more expensive

Before I got my evo, I was discouraged by everyone because they said the maintenance is ridiculously high. Now that I own it's not as bad as it was made out to be. I'd say for a high performance car, it's relatively cheap. Comparing it to a corolla or camry and you can see the difference in cost.
I daily drive my evo and my maintenance are as follows:
Oil change (3k miles) - $60
30k service - $500 (with labor)
rotors and pads - $500
SS brake lines - $100
Gas - $ way too much lol
Apart from gas, the most expensive things are going to be the 60k and clutch.
Just don's skimp on the maintenance. A healthy car is a happy car.

I change oil every 3-4 weeks. I drive at least 120 miles a day at 6 or 7 days a week.
But, I don't think that's the Norm,LOL
Brakes, tires, etc is all dependent on what compound also.
