Weird noise from engine
So loaded new map with reduce timing to eliminate knock. Did 3 b2b pulls and no knocksum on evoscan. Got home, sitting idle in the driveway..just about to shut down the car and heard this loud clicking noise like a machine gun. Pop the hood and its coming from the engine bay. Shut off the car and started 5 minutes later and the noise was gone! Drove around (not hard) and noise never return. This couldn't possibly be "rod knock" or anything devastating to the engine??
Youtube will be your best friend, just search for videos of problems you think it could be.
As for rod knock, you'll hear it at WOT before you hear it at idle. If it's solid at idle it will always be there and you'll know that's what it is. An interesting thing to note, a buddy of mine had a weird knocking noise in his car, ended up being his A/C compressor. It IS a piston pump, after all.

I can hear the sound from inside the car with windows up. However, I can't reproduce the noise. My A/C wasn't on so I'm assuming is not the A/C compressor? From what you're saying, rod knock would be consistent and not random. Only other possibility I've found is lifter tick, but is that random or consistent (always making that noise at idle)?
