Tranny problem and a few others

So I'm a newb I just bought an evo...I got it for a cheap price I THINK however
It needs work -_-

03 gsr rally red with 93k on it now.

The engine temp on the dash reads hot all the time, previous owner said it needs a new sensor.

Is that the sensor located by the upper radiator hose?

The tranny doesnt shift into second gear, the dude said he slipped in the snow last year and it wouldnt take second gear anymore....I held it down to see if it would stay but it pops back out...and if i force it..i hear a clank and immediately release it...
Sounds like a syncro or gear problem?

Last but not least...timing belt and water pump...how much miles can this car go without having it being changed?

:h elpme::hel pme:

1. Sensor is in thermostat housing

2. Tranny needs rebuilding - send it to the rebuilder of your choice.

3. 60K for belts - water pump is up to you - most people change it at 60K also.

Wouldnt it be better off rebuilding a tranny you have knowing whats in it and what went wrong and replaced what was worn? I estimated about 1k for a rebuild and if I wanted a 5 speed tranny id be paying around the same price...

dont expect to pay that. chances are there will be a lot more wrong with that trans than you think. I sent mine there, a trans that shifted fine and no grinds, and got an estimate of 1900. I added the evo 8 third and forth gears, but still alot more than I expected

So I changed the engine coolant sensor...and it didnt help the gauge on the dash...its still reading hot, the vehicle doesnt overheat or anything though...any idea's? The only thing i can think of is there is a loose plug somewhere so its not allowing it to read how hot or cold the engine coolant is....the good part the gauge is getting power?

The rebuild would be around $1,500-$2,200. Unless you had a brand new trans with no problems it would be the $1,000.

Coolant, you will have to check the wiring to the gauge from the ecu,sensor and dash.
