Yes I am aware that my s40 is really a mitsubishi carisma, I also own a eclipse Gsx, that was the inital reason for the purchase other than the BTCC love of the car. Either way the point was one of the two cars has a high rating, the other does not and how it is important, which in turn is not lame. Yes I own a motorcyle, nor did I say a bike is safer than a car, argue all helmets and leathers are all the same, nor do I carry my child with me. Which was what the original owner of the post was implying may be done in the car. As I stated earlier if you like an evo then buy it for the reasons you like it for. Dont tell this person that the results are unimportant at all, or say something completely off the wall. Saying people you know were not hurt in the same car is not lame it is informational, nor is saying buy the car you like, the enjoyment outweighs the safety concerns, or that cars made these days are stronger. Debunking facts becuase you own the particular car without good info is lame to me. As well as ducking the posters orginal question. Sorry.

If tanks were available to public, I'm more than positive sales would go through the roof.
You need to buy a bigger car so a Civic can't hurt you in the accident.
Most people that buy tanks and call others lame for buying a compact car are idiots. You are never 100% safe.
To improve on the safety, this country (as any other) doesn't need more airbags but more driving schools and make them a must. 80% of the 50+ yrold people out there learned how to drive on their own or at the time you just had to show up to get your license. Don't get me wrong, extra protection in your car is nice but the concept of preventing accidents is 100% wrong.
People need to *learn* how to drive, have to be taught by a professional and need to fail their driving exams if they do not learn how to operate the automobile properly.
To drive is not just know how to press the accelerator pedal, the brake pedal and turn the steering wheel. Very few people ever give turn signals, very few respect them even when they turned it on (a guy almost ran me down the other day because he turned on the turn signal and went strait) etc etc etc.
There is much more that can be done to improve saftey than putting extra airbags and lowering speed limits.
Some people are just too stuck up to notice.

 

That's all well and good, but those of us who pay attention when we drive are at the mercy of the people who don't. You can't always avoid accidents. Thus the need for a safe car.

The "lamer"s did answer these questions. What have we learned from this thread? Lancers have a poor side impact rating, and there won't be an EVO spec Lancer crash tested anytime soon. Is the EVO unsafe? Maybe, so don't buy the car. I do think its odd people preach safety, but ride a motorcycle to work everyday? The risk of you dying on that motorcycle is greater than my pelvic hurting in a side collision impact.

 

The people who answered the posters questions are not the the lame replies I speak of. When I ride my motorcycle the chances of my death not that it matters as I am not asking for a safe bike are very slim as it is a track only bike. I drive an STi daily. The Eclipse is a rare 1 star side impact car which is even worse than the Lancer. To the original poster it may be informative to seek other countries crash tests of the car such as europe or australia to see more information on side impact as the doors will still be the same.

 

I have no idea what you are talking about. I posted the original question, I never refered to anyone as a lamer.

An Evo Spec Lancer doesn't need to be side impact tested because the manufacturer has already stated that it won't be any different than a regular Lancer. Looks like the bajillion weld theory doesn't matter for side impacts, at least.

I don't know about you but my butt doesn't hang over the edges and I really think the bolsters would prevent a lot of impact.

You think thats bad? A 93 Mitsu Expo LRV has a "High Likelihood of Thigh Injury".

If you want to be safe buy a Maibatsu, thats what I drive.
