Those are only cats specifically made for CA. Other cats don't have them including stock cats. THEY DO NOT HAVE serial numbers!

CA is trying to do this to make the process of checking cats faster. Their database is not even complete yet. This is what you are referring to by the serial number thing.

Why are you even asking these questions if you think you know the answers?
No you cannot run aftermarket cats unless they say CA approved. They will go off a sniffer not the serial numbers.

You won't pass visual or sniffer with a test pipe here in CA.

Put on an oem cat and for the smog test, then swap back to your test pipe when you are done....What's the big deal?

I have an aftermarket cat (HFC) that did not pass smog...I tried ...but failed....miserably. Put the oem cat on and passed with flying colors..no other change was needed to pass...

Close Thread.

I already told him to do this. I just said watch out for the random inspections.

I also had a high flow cat and it definitely helped with the smell aspect going from just a megan resonator pipe. It also flowed real well. It probably wouldn't pass an emissions test though just like the others.

Your the one that needs to learn how to read sir. Please refer back to the original post.

Swapping out to stock cat before smog will not prevent you from getting your car sent to a referee station by a police officer. WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA

I read just fine...maybe my comprehension needs a little work at times.

Just to clarify something for you, this is EXACTLY what I did. Swapped out my bad HFC for my OEM cat (on my aftermarket 3" exhaust with 4" tip..nice and shiny too). Do you know what I did after passing my smog test? I put my bad HFC back on and haven't looked back yet. My OEM cat is sitting in my garage waiting for the next year I need to smog it. Visually it passed and it also passed the sniffer test.

I don't care what you do to pass your smog and I do hope you pass! This is how I passed my smog tests and many of my friends with built evos passed theirs' here in NorCal.

What is the point you are arguing? I forget.
