Evo X Test Pipe Options

I just ordered the AMS down pipe and the Buschur cross flow exhaust but im having a hard time figuring out if im better off with the Bushur test pipe (if i could find one) or the AMS resonated test pipe? My ultimate goal in this setup is good performance with a good low rumble. What do you guys think?

Well i wouldn't get the cheapest. Some people on here got the Megan ones and they are a little too short. There won't a difference in sound between the two because it is a metal pipe. I would just order a regular test pipe. If you want it a little quieter than get the resonated one instead.

like everyone said it is just a metal tube. just make sure you have a j-bung welded on to keep your rear o2 sensor out of the raw exhaust.

edit: i don't think there would be very big difference in power running resonated or unresonated unless you're trying to win races.

Anytime you mix and match exhaust components (like anything else on any car) you are going to be LUCKY if you don't run into problems Double gasket, lock washers, all good ideas to make any exhaust fit. Exhaust is the most basic mod but also one of the most PITA because of the location, and isht like this. Megan is cheap and it'll make power. If I have to fiddle with it to get it to fit, NBD.

fit and finish (quality) is still important to me at least. Knowing the setup looks good, performs well and fits properly with the piece of mind that it's going to last is worth a little extra change to me.

Heh, I think you're missing my point. Megan has been producing quality stuff for years, you cannot argue that. If I get my megan TP (I just ordered it a few days ago) and it doesn't fit, I'll send it back to them and give them a piece of my mind. I had megan parts on my evo8 and I've installed several other megan parts on lots of different friend's cars and never had a fitment issue.

But, like I said, if someone buys three different brands' parts: downpipe, testpipe, and catback, you raise the potential for stuff to not quite fit exponentially. Just take that FWIW and leave it at that I guess, I don't care what brand pipe you buy! High price and quality do not always go together, if you don't know that then you need to wrench on a few more cars

In the real world, there are so many other variables, guaranteeing perfect fit on exactly 100% of cars is pretty damn tough, but again: in my experience Megan has yet to let me down.

I mixed and matched without any issues.

Regarding test pipes, if you want to minimize the chance of droning exhaust sounds at certain RPMs a test pipe with resonator is a good idea. I had the MXP test pipe, which comes with a resonator. Ultimate Racing has one with a mini-muffler. I switched to the MIL-SPEC high flow cat

Thanks for all the help guys. I think ill get the AMS resonated TP. Ill leave the fitment issues to the pro's. This was my first thread and I'm impressed with just how helpful and knowledgeable everyone is. Thanks again.

I saw somewhere where they test an exhaust system (including test pipe) with a resonated system versus a system that was not resonated. The resonated exhaust system created alil less than ten more horsepower. Exhausts flows faster with a exhaust system that is resonated.

You are only buying one test pipe so usually in the car industry you get what you pay for.
