Having issues with Air Conditioning

Hi guys,
I'm currently having issues with my a/c in my '06 Evo IX. When it gets decently hot out, mind you I live in Southwestern PA, so usually not 1xx+ degress, but decently hot for my area, my a/c is rapidly engaging and disengaging causing me to feel it in the power of my Evo while I drive. When I say rapid I mean probably around 8 times in a couple seconds. I don't know if anyone else has ever had this issues or could possible tell me what is the problem or where I should start to troubleshoot. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get!
Thanks
Rocco Malarbi

Also make sure you're not just slightly low on freon, it's a sealed system so technically it should never disappear but over time I have seen it happen and that's why the compressor short cycles.

Yea it is definitely engaging rapidly and will stay engaged sometimes or stay disengaged and it is affecting the drivability slightly due to it being run off the crank, it sucks, but I'm going to check the Freon then check the shim size if it isn't low on Freon. The car was put back together from a shell and I don't know the guy who did it so it is sort of an issue. I will do what you guys suggested then get back and post what happens. Thanks a bunch for commenting!

Did you check the freon level??

That will cause compressor to cycle fast.....

the compressors are the same. As for the rapid cycling, its most likely a pressure problem. If the refrigerant is low, the compressor will cycle either really fast or sometimes stay engaged for too long. The compressors are supposed to cycle on and off, just not as frequently as yours. Any decent automotive shop or AC repair place should have a nice machine that they can hook up to it. Have them put the gauges on it and they will ask you to turn the AC on while the car is idling. When the compressor kicks on, it will give them pressure readings. Depending on those, they will decide if you need more refrigerant or not. Good luck

That chart is great as it gives a more precise reading and use a manifold because that is the best way of diagnosing whats going on.

I can help you on this since I've done mine previously. Okay first off you want a r134 can kit you will need no more than one to recharge it. I made the mistake of filling the a/c lines with two cans which made the system overcharge.

When the system is overcharged you will get little to no a/c because the system is full and will not allow the a/c clutch plates to cycle. So if you get the kit make sure you get one with a gauge. I can't stress it enough that way you'll know if the system is full so the system will function properly. Oh one more thing make sure you monitor for leaks in the system.
