So what exactly do I need to increase my boost past stock?

I'm relatively new to the car tuning community and I was just wondering what exactly I needed to increase my boost a few psi. I've got a good friend who can pretty much do anything on a car and has his own garage where he does his work. If I am altering the stock boost to above stock levels is it absolutely NECESSARY to get a tune? Also I've seen people mentioning that it's a good idea to get a bigger fuel pump, but is this really required since the stock evo is running pretty rich? My friend offered to give me his boost controller for free so I'll most likely be just using that. This is my shopping list so far:
Autometer Single Gauge Pod

Autometer Carbon Fiber Boost Gauge

http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...&cat=29&page=1

AMS Boost Control Solenoid Kit - EVO X

http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...6&cat=4&page=1
(I realize this says Evo X, but I'm assuming that boost solenoids aren't proprietary)

What else do I need?

if anyone could post links for better options, feel free. I'm trying to keep the price relatively low for my first "major" mod.

first off why do you have a bcs for an evo x? Honestly if you want to make more power i'd start with a tbe, intake, mbc, fuel pump, licp.

I just assumed that the solenoid wasn't proprietary and it seemed to be a cheaper option. I actually didn't mention, I already bought my Evo 8 with a works turboback exhaust. Could you maybe link me some suggestions as to what mods I should do first? It seems like the Walbro fuel pump is pretty good deal, but how much does it actually increase your performance? I the boost set-up I was planning to get did include a mbc from my friend. How big of a difference do licps make? it seems like it could potentially be pretty expensive without too large of a gain, but idk, as I said I'm not all too well read as it goes modding evos

All you really need in order to raise boost is a manual boost controller. To raise boost safely, you need a boost controller and a tune. But yes, Read through both of those threads. A lof of your questions will be answered there. Good luck

Weld the wastegate door shut so you go consistent boost pressure. Takes about 10 minutes

Takes two seconds to answer a simple question. Sarcasm isn't obvious to someone that has limited experience with cars, so what did you hope to gain?

2003 is calling asking for you, brah.

Sorry for calling you the OP.

Why did you post then? If someone is going to take the advice for welding the waste gate shut seriously they shouldn't be modding their car.

some people actually come on here looking for legitimate advice. Shouldn't have to be ridiculed for that. I posted what he needed to see and the other guy came in giving advice that would confuse the hell out of the op. did you post anything useful or just come in here with your seat belt fastened ready to dik ride?
