what does that ground do anyways?

I dont have that wire at all and i dont have any issues, my guess is what mods and what stock compnents you still have that might be blocking airflow to the engine bay. Mine is completely stripped undertray, fender lining for the front, air duct vents that direct airflow and hood vent cover is gone. During the winter my gauge would stay at the bottom baseline while driving

 

Update i changed the thermostat and did another flush and it still overheats, the next thing im going to do is get a new radiator and temp sensor, what do you guys think?

 

I would say start with the temp sensor then goto radiator
