Hallman mbc issue

Have a hallman mbc that doesn't seem to be working right. No matter what I did as far as adjustment would go I would still was spiking to 22-24 lbs and hitting boost cut (on factory tune). So I took it off cleaned it and put it back on then boost was going to 30+. Realized the knob was securing and wasn't adjusting so just took know off and adjusted the rod myself all the way out and figured I would be around 14psi but I'm still at about 21psi. I'm trying to get my hands and another mbc to test but have had no luck.

Is the vent hole aimed right? I seem to remember them saying something about the MBC malfunctioning if you rotated that nipple.

Didn't know about that. Which way is it supposed to be. I took both nipples off to clean it. Thanks

I want to say it is diagonally down, I can't recall for certain though. I have a Pro on my DD, it's too dark to look now though.

I don't know if that would do that or not, but its about the only thing I've heard of that can cause problems with operation. Unless the internals are just jacked up somehow (spring broke, chunk of carbon wedged in there etc).

Yeah I'm trying to find a pic clear enough online of new one to see if I can see the positioning and I can't see anything good. And it does say on the hallman site that it affects proper use so I'm hoping that's it, just need to find a good pic. Thanks for the heads up on that though

NP, I hope that's all it is.... I was looking on their website for a picture or anything and they just say it won't work right, but nothing about what happens.

That's messed up. If it just started happening and it was fine previously with no changes in between it sounds like either the MBC or wastegate actuator has failed.
I'd try supplying air pressure to the waste gate actuator and see what pressure it takes to move it. If you have to put ~25 psi or whatever to open it, then the waste gate is bad. If it takes ~13 psi or whatever stock is, then the mbc is bad. Similarly you could do the same thing to the mbc, it's more difficult to do though with no point of reference for the pressure setting on the mbc.

Have you tried taking it apart, clean, and oil it? Sometimes, the ball inside gets stuck, and it would affect the boost adjustment. Happened to me once, but have seen it mulitple times on other cars. Remove one of the fittings, take the ball and spring out. Lightly spray some break cleaner inside, and also the ball and spring. Reassemble, and use a light lube...2-3 drops is enough. Also check the vacuum hoses for puncture. Good luck
