MFI help - Runs with some help but should do on it's own
MFI help - Runs with some help but should do on it's own
In a nut shell. Gen1/Evo 1 GSR. Md187701 ECU
Car died on the highway, turned over once trying to start then nothing. Just keeps cranking.
Have read countless threads about this being common. To check CAS, ECU, MFI, etc. Having trouble finding all three to swap out.
My situation, when I sit in the car, MFI/DI gold cap is taken off there are the two relays within the MFI. Left relay snaps down upon turning the key one click before ignition. Upon full turn of the key the car just cranks.
*However*
When I depress the right relay with my finger, the fuel pump begins to whir and the car starts, idles and revs beautifully.
So now I am back to being stuck. Can the CAS still be the culprit with the vehicle being able to run beautifully. Have I eliminated or pointed out anything obvious.
This thread seems to indicate that the MFI/DI will *stick* http://www.auslancer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4404. It isn't stuck though, it just isn't activating in order to engage the fuel pump.
Thanks all!

Yes. The cas can still be the problem. The ecu needs to see the crank signal to know the engine is turning over to know to send power to the fuel pump.
That still might not be your problem though.

So now to hunt down a 4g63 CAS. we have no old evo's at all up here. Trying to find more common vehicles I could snag one from.
Thanks for the reply J, was hoping I had made big steps now that it was running but back to square one... At least engine bay is pretty much ruled out other that cas.
I am going this second to begin other model searches to locate a replacement CAS but any help would be awesome.

One more question. When I go to change the CAS, I have read a lot about needing cylinder 1 to be at TDC. Can I not just align the new sensor to the same point as the old and put it in. I dont have a lot of experience replacing them.
