steering intermediate shaft?

so i got this clunk noise every time i drive slowly or back up and turn my steering wheel to the right. Also if i put key on and just turn and jerk my steering wheel to the right i can also hear it but i do the same to the left its not there. If you jack it up the noise is gone.

replaced right inner then outer tie rod and noise is still there.

so i put the front on some wood block so i can get underneath.. i can feel the noise vibrating through the new inner tie rod i put in. So does that mean i have a bad intermediate shaft or the gears inside?

Suspension noises are tricky to diagnose without being there. The short answer is no... it doesn't mean that, but it COULD mean that.

I would suggest checking out some of Eric the Car Guy's vids on youtube. Specifically this one, about suspension clunks.

It will give you a good foothold into how to check for, properly diagnose, etc.

I also wouldn't necessarily just suggest throwing parts at it. People do this pretty often in the mechanical world nowadays, it's sad. Be a real mech, and find the problem FIRST, then repair it.

Worth noting... many people have clunking noises from their downpipes hitting their gearboxes. That won't be covered in that video, but something to think about.

Post up with more questions, or further investigatory leads... we're all here to help each other!

Sounds like it could be your intermedia shaft. But the sound could also be top mount on one of your struts.

i replaced the passenger inner/outer tie rods because when i went to inspect them they were both bad not because i had to guess. good video though. will inspect more places to be exact.

i dont think its my strut because i jack either side up and moved my wheel back and forth i would still hear the noise. so meaning that theres no load on either strut and i still hear the noise might not be the struts but i will check too. thanks

im pretty sure now its the rack and pinon that the intermediate shaft connects too. used a stethoscope to locate the noise. either needs more lube or put a new one in.
