Weird stalling issue?

So I'm sitting at the local car meet with my buddy, I'm parked next to him. He just recently removed his exhaust while waiting for his new one to arrive (may or may not have anything to do with it). Some dude in a civic revs his car so obviously, he revs back up to launch limiter..next thing I know my cars about to die. So I have him do it again just to see if it was related and my car completely stalls out. What the hell would cause this to happen? Sorry if there's already a thread, I'm posting this pretty much immediately following the incident..but I did do a little searching first so don't hate. Thanks in advance.

I've got a pretty decent understanding of cars but I don't really follow the correlation haha. Any way to explain that?

I've heard people say the same thing about being next to a group of bikers. Your maf doesn't like the vibration or cavitation.....something like that.

I'm sure someone will give a more official sounding explanation but that's how I understood it.

My cars a gentle beast haha no need for excessive loudness imo. As far as the maf goes, good to know. I'll have to look into that more down the road, just had to know why it was happening.

Check the vacuum lines, it might cause the car to stall out. When revving the car up to launch control it builds boost and letting go immediately may cause the lines to pop off. I dont know just going by experience, happened to me before. Good luck with solving the problem!

Edit: woops, misread what you said on the other person revving. But STILL check those lines!

I would tell your friend that his civic is knocking so bad that your knock sensor is picking it up and pulling timing so much it stalls out your ride. It is after all just an audio sensor. My car used to idle dip super bad when I would slam my hood shut. I raised my bump stops a little and it never did it again.

No offense to other posters but I don't see how the maf or a vaccum line could cause that. Think knock sensor, its the only audio related sensor on the car.

I have this problem at the track when I'm next to really loud cars like the open header v8's. It's only when I'm idling and they rev.my car wasn't picking up any knock so I asked my tuner said it's the vibration in my maf.

I've never heard of anything like that, you learn something new everyday!!! Thanks vito, I would just assume the knock sensor would be the culprit. So what sensor in the maf would do that? I know there's a mass air flow in there, obviously. Also there's a ait sensor in the maf. What else is in there that would cause it? SD would cure this too I would think.

I've seen this issue posted a few times and the culprit is the MAF. Like someone said before it only happens around other very loud vehicles or motor cycles.

alright i did some research. basically our mafs split the incoming flow in half, it creates an oscillating pattern which has a frequency that is somehow proportional to air velocity and is read as a pressure pulse against the sensor..so the way i see it is that when people with loud vehicles are revving next to you, the overwhelming loudness is enough to throw off the sensors monitoring of that pattern and in turn picks up that of the other vehicle? which in turn creates an off reading that cant be sustained by the vehicle because its an unmonitored outside force. my brain hurts.
