Evo good first car?
Evo good first car?
whats up,
Ive been saving over 6 years to purchase an evo and finally have the money to pay for the car, mods, insurance and gas. however, this will be my first car, not the first car ive driven (driven parents and friends cars..beamer,cadillac, kia etc.) but it will be my first owned car.
Please dont nag me about me crashing, or being irresponsible. i feel confident in my driving ability.
If you have any helpful advice on it being a first car and if it is hard to maintain (monthly maintenance fees, etc) that would be awesome. evo ix or viii???
also, if you have any knowledge the cheapest places to purchase an evo (provinces in canada or states in the US) that would be great too.
my first post,
thanks

No, drive a pickup for a few years. This is in no way assuming your irresponsible, but driving something that does not brake well and tail happy, is a great way to learn to drive under condition that are unpredictable.
No, this is not a good first car, unless you're ready to dive in head-first.
For a first car, get something without a turbo, and without AWD. RWD cars are easy to work on, especially if you have to do any drivetrain work.
If you want an easy car to work on that's still fun, get a 240sx. Straight forward cars. KA24 is an easy/cheap motor to rebuild and work on. And you can get an early 90s cheap.
Not a fun answer, sorry, but if you're not familiar with car basics, you don't want this car. Unless you can afford to pay someone to look at it every time something little happens.
Good luck! If you chose an Evo, the forum will help you out.

When I said that I meant have relatives and friends with those cars and have been lucky enough to drive it. Never said I owned a Beamer. Benz. Etc.
No, its not a good first car. Not only will you need the 15k to buy the car itself, you also need the money for maintenance, both scheduled (oil changes, timing/accessory parts) and unscheduled (clutch, transmission, radiator, engine, tires, brakes etc) not to mention other modifications youll wanna do (rims, turbo, intercooler, and exterior mods). Dont forget to factor in insurance into monthly costs, for someone under 25 unmarried and male, especially in an evo, you might be looking at almost 150-200/mo. And if you finance 10k with good credit, another 200/mo.
If you got the money and want it that bad, I'd say buy it, as long as you take care of it and don't rag on it like it's a 92 civic you'll be alrite, the insurance is probably going to be high for you at your age, if you still live at home I'd recommend asking the parents to be put on their policy, it's a HUGE difference in premiums, either way, if and when you do get one don't forget to post pics on here, gl
I didn't catch how old you are but I assume 16 to 18.
At that age my main concern was 16 to 18 year old girls. Unfortunately 16 to 18 year old girls don't like Evos. They do however like BMWs. So you have two options. Get the cheapest BMW you can find and stuff your glove box with trojans.
Option 2, get a kia, honda, VW, whatever. Pop all the emblems off of it and glue a BMW emblem to it. Those girls don't know cars, they know brands. Stuff that glove box full of trojans.
You're welcome.
