Questions regarding Tuning stock Evo

What is the most user friendly and cheapest tuning setup for the Evo? I've heard a lot about evoscan and what not but I'm not positive. Could you guys tell me everything we need, I know we need a cable etc... I come from the DSM world so I'm very familiar with dsmlink/ecmlink.

Thanks

All you need to know here. Very long read but super useful.

Cliffnotes evoscan to log, ecuflash to alter the maps.
Tephramodv7 is a great rom if you have an Evo 8/9 that is a bit more versatile than the stock rom.

Stock ECU w/ Evoscan, Ecuflash and optionally Tephramod is IMO the only option worth considering for a stock/close to stock evo.

Hop over to the EcuFlash section, there are plenty of threads there that explain the processes and whatnot. Recompile's Ecuflash tutorials on youtube are quite useful as well for someone new to Ecuflash

Sweet lots of info on that Merlin's pdf, it says a 1.3 cable can be used as well or is it only the 2.0?

1.3 for the Evo 8/9 and the 2.0 for the Evo X is ideal. Although I believe you can use the 2.0 for all years.

you will also need a wideband to properly tune your car. I like the zeitronix one.

Another one would be a 3-port and a boost gauge or atleast an upgraded map sensor to log boost.

Id recommend getting the Tactrix 2.0. It can be used on a wide array of vehicles (including 2g's with a flashable ecu, and the evo X and other CAN bus vehicles). It can also do stand alone logging to a microsd card, so you dont need a laptop running in your car to log.

I have a 1.3 and a 2.0 and my favorite is the 2.0. I know the 1.3 is supposed to do live tuning but I've never been able to get my 1.3 to live tune anyways lol so might as well get the 2.0. Tactrix is based in California (2.0 guys) and is run by two really good guys, Colby and Mike. If you have any questions you can email them too and Mike checks the emails every single day.
