Should I buy this 2003 Evo 8?
Should I buy this 2003 Evo 8?
Hello All,
Not sure if this posting should be here, but thought it would be relevant topic.
I have always wanted an evo and have been a long time fan of the car. My brother is going to away for college and needs a car so i am giving him mine and I decided to buy a car i wanted. I want to get the Evo 9 SE, but then i saw the price and mileage on this evo 8. Should I wait and find a evo 9 SE or buy this? I do plan going to the track in the future.
I dont know anything about cars so i would find a specialized mechanic that would look into this for repair before buying it.
Year: 2003
Model: Evo 8
Odometer: 24,000 miles (Seller Purchased at 19.5k) no engine rebuild
Cost: $13,000.00
Location: New York
Current Owner: 2nd/3rd Owner, purchased from a dealership (Seller Owned for 2 years total)
Car Accident: This car was in an accident from previous owner, front driver side damage swiped a guard rail. All damage was repaired and body is in top shape, no frame damage or issues with handling.
Current Issue: Car has not been used for a few months, does not turn on needs jump or fuse replaced. in March 2014, car making engine noises, he had his mechanic look at it. Believes it to be the bearing bottom end work, the clutch was not properly installed.
Mods: Worth about $10,000.00 below and knows where the tuning was done at.
AEM Programmable Engine Management System
AMS Turbo kit 35r
TIAL Waste gate 44mm
TIAL Blow off Valve
Buschur Front Mount Intercoolers
Fuel pressure regulator
Stage 3 clutch kit (not sure of the brand)
Tubular Manifold
Vibrant Exhaust
Strut tower brace
Hallman Manual Boost Controllers
HKC Intake
Evo 7 tail lights
Boost Gauge
Wideband - Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge
Below is the link to the car i want to buy. Above is information after i spoke to the seller and that is not listed in the posting.

Decent mods on it but if the motor is bad you better be ready to put a bit of money into rebuilding it. If everything else is good on it you would still be able to rebuild it for less than what Evo 9 SEs go for. Its up to you if you're willing to rebuild or not.
yes, it has been in an accident, but only the side.
i just want to know if this is a good deal or not considering the miles it has on it and the amount of mods.
For the SE's, does it matter the mileage (20k vs 80k+) or just the condition (interior/exterior) of the car is fine.

The 8 sounds like a three legged dog, only less lovable.
Unless you really know what you are doing, I'd stay away from cheap Evos.

^ that, was exactly in the same boat as you, but i pulled the trigger. Buying a broken Evo is like buying a box of chocolate... let the people who break them fix them and lets not give them reason for unsuspected buyer to fall for there's little broken with it, can be fixed and had a nice cheap evo for cheap. That doesn't seem to work out that way with Evo, spend a little more and buy a working Evo.
If you not very experience with car or evo in general, i would say stay away from this one. Granted it a good deal but from the looks of things it need quite a bit of work and might put a bad taste in your mouth that you gotta spend so much money and you haven't enjoyed your investment yet.
