Whining Noise.

I'm a new owner to a 2005 Evolution VIII and I've been hearing a whining noise. I've "heard" it's common on Evos and means you need to get your TC rebuilt. Is it always the TC or can it be something else like a fuel filter??

need more information, when are you hearing the whining, what gear? are you crusing or on high speeds? But most likely it will be the TC lol.

Does it whine while in neutral and you rev the motor? Check your serpentine belt tensioner. Have someone rev the motor while you walk around the engine bay and listen to see if it is coming from the passenger side where the serpentine belt is located.

You can replace the whole unit for around $141 NEW from STM or other vendors...just search around and go with your vendor of choice if this turns out to be the culprit.

GL and report back to us so we know what the problem was!

To be honest I hear it all the time. It gets really loud when I'm in 5th gear going 60mph though.

Sounds more like your tc is going out. Just double check and see if you hear the whine when you rev it in neutral...just to be sure.

Let us know what it turns out to be.

1st and 2nd is normal...if it does it all the time in every gear it could be your tc...make sure it isn't your tires because mines does a similar sound and it is the tires...also, if you just got the car do yourself a favor and change all the fluids, oil, tranny, tc, diff, even coolant while you're at it...remember people beat the **** out of these cars and you don't know what type of maintenance has been done on it...that's what I do every time I buy a car...
