Evo lifer? Or....
I started out with Toyota MR2s (have had three) and my sister actually bought a tme evo while I was going through this RWD phase. When she decided to move and sell the car, I sold my MR2 and bought it from her.I've had it for years since. Love everything about it although I have considered selling it a few times to buy something newer (evo 9). I've also owned an '03 STI at the same time and liked it quite a bit so not sure I can call myself an evo lifer lolol.

I got my Evo a little over 9 years ago on my birthday. Aug 22 in 2005 brand new. I was 28. I'm now 37 and I still love my Evo and don't plan on getting rid of it for at least another 10 years. I've put a lot of time and money into it. Not to mention all the times its tested my patience. Its a love hate relationship but I still love my Evo!
Bought my Evo 9 SE in 2007, had 8 miles on it. I had been lusting after it for years until I was able to afford to buy one. The first one I drove, a TB 9 MR SE was way too expensive and I sort of went into a weekend depression after I told them no. My wife suggested we go for a drive and I ended up at another dealership. I didn't even haggle, they knew I wanted it so badly so the result of the damage to my wallet was about 34k. I will keep my Evo forever. I can't even think of another car that could take its place without being a hassle to take care of. My son said when he turns 16 he's going to drive my car, I told him that he can kiss my ***.
:
so hard when I read this.
Bought mine with 4 miles new in October 2004. 10 years later, still enjoying. Best part is teaching my 16 yr old son how to autocross. Yeah, I let him drive it
Will be a lifer until someone offers bags of money for it, haha.

I think I'm going to keep the STi for my son to learn stick on. He doesn't even bother asking to drive my Evo. He knows better. I think it scares him anyway. Hell it scares me
I'm surprised to see how many people are here have the same story as me. I bought my SSL new in 06. Now, I'm 34 and still love the car. Over the years, I've seen a lot of guys make their cars crazy fast. Then I usually see them blow the car up, or make the car so fast that it's not fun to drive on the street and sell it. For me, the key was mod in moderation and improve the power without sacrificing the dynamic of the car as a whole.
Long story short, I'm a lifer because I want a true manual transmission, prefer mechanical dynamic controls rather than electronic, and love AWD. There's nothing like that on the market today.

i have a friend who just hit 700whp+ which is AWESOME, but (IMO) takes away the purpose of the car. once you make that kind of power, you can be driving anything, really. a mustang, camaro, GTR, etc. now it's a car too fast for anything other than drag racing. it's fun to give joy rides in and all, but i need more out of a car. different strokes and all. i'm glad to see him make it, but it's just not my cup-o-tea.
i've driven my car with the WHP in my sig. it's most fun around 350whp.

If I didn't have a brand new reliable daily driver I wouldn't have done to my Evo what I did to it. I get a 5 day break between loving/hating the Evo. I love driving it and it's not too bad around town, but usually come Sunday night I'm glad to be driving the smooth quiet Jetta to work the next 5 days lol. And at the power level my Evo is at now, it's very hard to drive it slow in traffic. It DOES NOT like partial throttle at all and that's where it becomes hard to drive, esp in areas around town where the speed limit is 35mph and the guy in front of me goes 30mph. Not easy to drive behind a guy like that at all.

If people wern't such cheapskates I would've sold my Turbo kit and gone back to a stock frame turbo and kept the power around 500ish. I'd rather keep the kit I have now and deal with the power (I rarely put E85 in it anymore just because the extra power really isn't needed) then sell it for next to nothing.
