I came from a bunch Foxbodys, then an 03 Cobra, then sold it for the Evo, huge mistake. Evo was my least favorite car I've owned yet. It was so expensive and unreliable it was never fun, just a pocket/time drainer. Just sold the Evo and got into E30s and couldn't be happier about that decision.

plenty of suckers here on the forum complaining about the same thing you said because they couldn't afford a decent condition car. Good you moved onto something else. This platform was clearly not for you
I started out autocrossing in my daily driver. Had a lot of fun and finally was in a position to buy a cheap "fun" car after college as a project car. Wanted something faster that I could improve and learn on. Ended up with a Supercharged MR2. Did a bunch of suspension upgrades, some bolt-on power mods, and lots of fixing stuff along the way. I am quite happy with the car as an autocross car, but I always wanted more power. Thanks to living in the land of smog *****, I couldn't add the power I wanted and still be able to keep it street legal.
I started seriously looking at another car last year. My criteria were:
I was looking at cars like the S2000, Evo, STi, 350Z, e46 M3, or Corvette. I had driven a friend's S2000, and it was magic the way it handles. I had also driven a friend's STi, and it felt big, but fast and a lot of utility. I had never driven an Evo before, but was always a fan of those cars. Out of those cars, the Evo was the hardest to find, especially one that wasn't heavily modified. By chance, a nearly stock (only an intake and an A-pillar boost gauge) Evo IX SE came up for sale locally, higher mileage, but in good condition. Being kind of a unicorn, and the Evo being less common than the other cars I was looking at, I bit and bought it.
It's a fun car thus far, kind of like it's maniacal personality. It's a weekend/track car for me, and I'm happy with it in that regard. I am going to need to make some tweaks to it though to dial out the understeer. After all the reviews I read about how sharp the car is, I was not expecting so much push!
Am I attached to it and a lifer? Nah. I had been attached to some of my earlier cars, but at this point in my life, I don't get attached to a car. They are a tool, a means to an end, and something to have fun in.
And I'm mid 30's as well.

- Quick enough to be fun for the street and track. I have no plans to drag race, but breaking into the 13's would be where I wanted to be.
- Nimble enough for track use.
- Something that will meet the above criteria as is. Not interested in a project car.
- AWD or RWD.

Same here. Not the best car to use as a daily. They do push in stock form. It takes some tuning to fix it. But once you do? Weeeeeeee
I don't think it a question of trouble. pretty sure I'd rather daily a 540, so... Evo not the best daily.
With GTWorx springs and Bilstein HD shocks it's a better daily than a stock GSR but it's still not as cushy as a 540 would no doubt be. Get the Dinan package and then there's not so much skill required to smoke joe shmoe at stop light. Just stomp your right foot while you sip your coffee in soft leather and watch them disappear in your rear view.
Hell, I might need a cigar at that point.

)I love it and will continue to daily it unless I'm in the mood to take my bike out On the weekend for a warm up on the freeway
I think it is all a matter of perspective, if you came from the finer things in life prior the the ownership of your evo you might think the evo rides harsh. If you came from lets say a improperly damped honda civic or harsher riding vehicle you will think the evo feels "tuned" and ideal in terms of ride quality.
TBH the evo is harsher than most cars, but reasons that it needs to be. ALSO the models with Bilstein dampers from the factory are supposed to feel softer but perform even better on the track, so if you are complaining with that model...you are a whiner plain and simple.

I've had everything from a honda to a lexus........I like firm rides. Hate plush. Feels to disconnected to me. My old manager has a bad *** S2 on H&R coilovers. Thats about as soft as I would get and it was not soft at all.
Yes a 540 might be more comfortable but then again so is a cts-v caddy, I just don't get why people cry about how terrible the evo ride is (maybe hit the gym

driving in my sisters lexus ES350 makes me car sick. even when I sit in the front seat concentrating on the horizon. it's the only car I've ever been in that does that to me.
Had a lot of interesting stuff. Modified the snot out of a lot of things. Built a WRX wagon that trapped 129 (homebuilt holset setup, fender exhaust etc.) Built a turbo setup on my Duramax and went mid 12's at 5800ft elevation, built a turbo 4 runner. Supercharged a 4 door tacoma... Couple turbo old school legacys. 1989 turbo Supra etc.
After I started working with my wrx evo's were always the "enemy". Had a couple friends with them, started to slowly grow on me. Got out of cars and got my pilot's license. Sold my truck to pay off my house and borrow the money for a plane. Needed another vehicle, wasn't going to get anything that I would mod too much... but at the same time a friend of mine decided to sell one of his evo's that was nearly stock and pretty nice. Bam.. came to the "dark side" .... the list of mods just keeps growing
I have a love for 4th gen supras... but I guess I don't want one as much as I wanted a plane. I don't think I'm an evo lifer.. but I expect to hang on to it for several years and then see what's what. Most of my cars I'll hang on to 3-5 years, while doing a lot of mods and then consider moving on. If I did have a Supra that would be one exception most likely....

if i could only one one of my vehicles, it would be the Evo, hands down. i would have left it stock, though, so it wouldn't be quite as uncomfortable on a daily basis.
