Evo lifer? Or....
I was curious as to where a lot of Evo owners came from and want to go? Seems like a lot of us take the same paths. I came from a DSM(99 GS-T) which I loved and had a lot of fun with for a long time. Sold it and wanted something more.... I knew I wanted AWD or RWD next. So, I narrowed my potentials down to: Evo, STi, RX-7 and Supra. I obviously went with the Evo and still love the car to this day. Now, deep into my 30's, I find myself looking at Supras again. Who knows if and when it will happen...
I guess my question is are you still fully content? More directed at you guys that have owned your car for a long time. Always interesting to hear other people's paths.

I'm 57 years old, started off with (first Japanese car that is) a new 1986 Mitsubishi Starion LE 'Flat Fender', traded that in for the lethal 1989 Starion ESI-R 'Wide Body' 2.6 Liter, which I still own since new. Bought my 2006 Evo IX-MR new, and will never sell these two cars! I'm a lifer...

With out telling my age, I'll just say I brought my first of 8 dsms in 1998. Then I added 3 evos to the mix.. Wife pushes me to buy a GTR.. I prefer to keep the evo

I am a 4g63 lifer.

I got into Evos the old fashioned way - playing GT III.
I had just moved to Poland from the US, and like most clean-living young Americans, I had no idea what an Evo is. Then I bought GT III, and had to ask myself "What the chocolate is that?" I think back then the VI or VII was the newest version.
Needed a car when I came back to the US. Got an Evo.

Hello. My name is Anthony. I'm 34 years olds, and I'm an Evo Lifer.
I'm a car enthusiast because of my dad. He was a muscle car kinda guy growing up. He's a mechanic by trade, and his genes naturally made me the person I am today. Countless times I remember watching my dad service our families vehicles. From full engine to re-builds, to simple maintenance. I was always hanging out with him in the garage, intrigued by the mechanics.
I got my license the day I turned 16 (1996). I opted for a mid-90s Celica since it was sporty and what my family could afford. A year or so later, I met a friend named Brad. He was the son of a Judge..came from a wealthy family. Brad drove an '89 Mazda MX6 2.2 Turbo, modified, and fast as hell! Thats when it all changed. I was introduced to a Turbo and the invigorating Boost that came with it. I had to have one..at least the turbo part of it.
At the same time, I started a subscription to Sport Compact Car Magazine. Suddenly I was introduced to some of the world's best cars. The Evo and Sti were naturally always featured. And then Subaru did the amazing, brought the WRX stateside. A year later, the Evolution VIII was here..and of course out of my budget with the dealer mark-ups. The amazingness continued..2004 would offer the RS model, priced at less than 30 grand, and that I could afford. So I put name on the waiting list for a white RS model. A few months later, the car arrived. I raced down to the dealership. The car was still wrapped in its plastic. However, they wanted 29k plus an additional 4k due to exclusivity. No way. I told the salesman, talk to your boss. I'll give you 29k minus 3k for my Celica. And like that, the deal was done on June 4, 2004. One of the happiest days of my life. I had gotten my dream car.
Three years later(2007 and 27yrs old) my daughter was born. I instantly thought back to a past SCC article(Sep '04). "So it's a perfectly practical family sedan that also just happens to have the best seats, the best steering, the best brakes, the best suspension, and the best drivetrain ever to grace a real car." My daughter, now 7yrs old, loves the Evo. Throttle blips here and there, its all very fun. I can honestly say that I won't ever get rid of my Evo. I just love her too much. And more importantly than the fun factor is the sentimental memories. Quality time spent with my dad working on the car is irreplaceable. The Evo was also the car used to take my daughter home from the hospital when she was born. I won't ever forgot the look on the Nurses faces as they inspected my babies car seat. Some boy racer they suspected. If only they knew. "The only real problem is explaining this car to normal people."
So while I love my car, I did get another vehicle a few years ago. A used 2005 Ram 1500 4x4 6 seater Hemi. I needed variety. I craved power doors, windows..power everything really. I wanted a cruiser, an automatic. A quite vehicle not lacking muscle. So now I alternate between the two, helping keep the miles down on the Evo.
Thanks for reading. And to the OP. Supras are bad ***! I think you're maybe feeling as I did a few years ago..wanting some variety. Theres nothing wrong with having two vehicles in case you don't want to let go. I think the Evo is more practical especially when a family is involved, but only you know what path to take. Best of luck!

That's cool as hell, man! Sounds like my Grandfather. He has a similar story. He's 83 and still has that 1950 Ford. The Supra has always been my "unicorn". Still struggling with the idea of selling my Evo though... Great car that I have put time and money into. We will see what happens. Thank you for the kind words.
I have a tiburon GT and having front wheel drive was just terrible. I rode in my buddies Evo 8 with around 460whp and it changed my life. So im looking to buy one now and i can say that owning a car like an evo is not something to take for granted. The question should be how are you not content!!!!!

Oh, trust me. I'm well aware of what the Evo is. I have owned and driven one for going on 6 years now. As I have said, I absolutely love my Evolution. The Supra talk is no disrespect to the Evo. I have always had a thing for the Mark IV Supra. I wasn't even old enough to drive when I saw a Black 94 6-speed 20 years ago. Have been facinated with them since.
Whats with the supra hate? Just because you don't find it appealing doesn't entitle you to go around bashing someone else's dream car. We are not evo nut swingers and fanbois here on Evom; we are car enthusiasts who can appreciate all aspects of car culture.
...Except for the ghetto scene with their 25" rims, 2 gigawatt stereos, and chrome coming out of their ***. Eff those guys.

hey, I too am entitled to my opinion whether it be bad or good. You dont have to agree. But after all this is an evo forum and all I ever see is posts like "omggzz I wish I had a gtr, I wish I had a supra." Then get the Eff off Evom, sell your evo and go buy one!! Lol
I am an evo lifer. I have wanted one since 02 when I first saw an Evo 7. Still my favorite BTW... But the turbo awd bug really bit me when a buddy launched with in his 04 STI that had about 450hp to the wheels. Stick a fork in me, I was done. Finally, a year ago, I got my heavily beat up and abused 03 evo8, and I tell ya, I will never get rid of it. I may collect other cars, but the evo will be my go to, 0-60 in 3.8 head turning world eater. Happy for life, evo for life.

the Mazda rx7 FD now that's pretty! Me sucki sucki
