Engine Build Advice

Hey got my car back about a month ago from auto shop after having a knocking sound. Was told few of the lifters were bad replaced all. Knocking didn't go away then they found that #1 piston at top dead center will drop 1/8 inch. So now i'm on to debating whats the next move. Car will be driven as much as possible during summer, auto cross(maybe), and hoping to do some beginner road racing, wanna go fast 1/2 mile (won fastest 4 door this year in Chicago,IL). I want something that can be driven across country and beat on at any given moment. What are your opinions on motor setups equal to or better then i have. Most of the guys i hang with have GTR's and would like to shut down the few that are alpha 9 and below.

Current setup

AMS 2.3 stroker
Garrett 35r
Tomei titanium exhaust
spark tech ignition
ID 2000 cc injectors
Buschur double pump
Shep 5 speed
AEM v1
Made 580hp @37 on E85

With this setup car was maxed out.

Cheapest possible upgarde would be using what is still good in engine and upgrade turbo.

Worse case starting over if it means i will not have to rebuild again.

Most of this will be decided once i decide on who to send car to do the repairs? So they can find out what the damages truly are.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

2.4LR are the cheapest way to go and are a great all around engine in my opinion, you will need a more efficient turbo than a 35r to take down alpha 9 cars though. I have that motor on a custom Garrett T67 billet hybrid turbo and have yet to come across anything that can take me down from a roll Im on 40+psi and was able to pull on a modded Yamaha R1 from a roll and some cars that trap 140+ in the quarter mile.

If you want to do the 1/2mile event you may want to look in to a well built 2.0l motor. or 2.1l you Can Rev it out more. and to me the Stroker are great, but I Feel The smaller motors can handle More abuse

The 4g63 2.2L is a really good balance of displacement and revs. Also, you might want to look into why your setup is underperforming. A 35r on a 2.3 @ 37lbs should make much more than 580whp.

Check out the Buschur 2.3RPM. It is packed full of the latest wizardry from David and should meet or exceed your needs. https://secure.buschurracing.com/cat...0237022c2cf9e0

I have been looking at Buschur 2.3RPM. What other shops are making good built engines? 2.0L 2.4LR?

Any videos of your car. This sounds like a great setup. Also does your engine consume oil. I was going through a lot of oil. Think part of it was bad turbo seals.
