Roughly? I imagine taking the head off drilling and tapping is involved. Sending the head out for surfacing etc.

Depends on if the shop that is removing the head (if you're not removing it yourself) has the capacity to machine the surface of the head. So if you're looking at one shop removing head, sending to another shop for machining (hopefully local) and back should only be about 2-4 days, depending on workload. The drilling and tapping I would imagine another 1 day of labor? When my head was pulled to send off for valve job it was 1 day for head removal and delivery to machine shop, like 2 days at machine shop for resurface and valve job, and another 1 day of re-install, maybe 2 I can't remember because I don't think head was delivered back to the shop first thing in the morning. So like 4-5 days total. Can't see your job taking too much longer.

many factors, accessibility to machine shop, list of cars in front of you. how deep your pockets are. how good of a job you want.
its always best to ask them for an etc.

What should one expect to pay for a top notch job? My valves are fine i'm just pushing coolant so will need to send out for a resurface.

Resurfacing the head will cost you a couple hundred bucks unless you give it to them fully disassembled then it could be even under $100. But pulling the head really isnt that hard of a job so assuming they arent too busy they should be able to get it done over a couple of days. I have no clue how many work hours they will bill you for but I could easily see if being upwards of $1000 all said and done.

Are you pulling the head yourself of having a shop do all the work?

theres too many factors, depends on how many other jobs they have lined up before you, how many workers they have on hand what level of skill they have etc.
but I think heel2toe pretty much has the situation pegged well.

There should not be any drilling and tapping involved. L19's are not a larger stud. They are a stronger stud.
