Military + Evo's = Questions
Wait until after basc training and any tech schools first. Save all your money. They give you three square meals a day and a place to sleep and free clothes. When I went into the Navy I was one of the few with a car and the guys are always wanting you to drive and drink etc. Not worth it. Save up bro! Plus the cost to maintain is high. I have to do a break job this weekend. Dealer wants 250/pair for brake pads. Not gonna pay that but still pads are 80 to 100/pair plus premium gas, oil changes every 3500 miles/Mobil One, insurance, and who knows what the other guys might do to you car.....by a beater if needed but not this car.

Just volunteer to go to Iraq and you'll be ok to pay for it even as a E1. So what if you can't drive it. Come home on leave and bring it AMS have them do some work and then go back to Iraq then go on leave again after a while and then come back home and have a 600+ HP evo to smoke all these other guys on here including me. (This was said very sarcastically)
I bought my ride deployed!!!
Look, if you want an $30,000 car while you're out here, you can do it. I did it! USAA found the EVO for me with everything I wanted, I paid the dealership with my debit and paid the car that way. USAA sent them a $15,000 check one day later... I did everything over the phone, like deal, purchase, and made a next of kin to my mother so she can fill the little paper work... You can get it from the JAG here. Sounds like a lot, but it took me 3 days to finish everything. After I bought it, my mother went and got it, it took her 30 minutes. Below I wrote a venting situation I now face, I wrote it on another post and it might be something you want to consider!:
Here's my situation:
I bought me a wonderful 2006 Electric Blue-Evo IX, I got about maybe 100 miles, maybe less... IDK... I got over $20,000 in bought parts and toys. I made over $18,000 worth in payments. I got so many big plans and so many ideas, it's not even funny. But the worst is... I have never seen my car! I've never seen a single key or better yet smell the "New Smell" in it.
Reason: I'm Deployed!! It'll be a total of 545 days of just having my friends send me pictures of my ride and not seeing it in person. To hear it, I have to call my mother when she does the weekly drive around the neighborhood. It's funny too... I'll tell her to "go to the long strip" which is out on back side of the neighborhood. I'll tell her "mash it and give it all you got!" Just to hear it spool... Sucks though because I have to tell her to keep quiet... The speed makes her scream...
I had her mail me my owners manual and everything just to read what it had and what I had bought. I had multiple friends look at it and tell me what it looks like, felt like, and sound it like... No one has drove it except my mother from the dealer after I bought it she now just drives it so it doesn't f up sitting there in the garage. You wanna talk about a situation that sucks... that it right there... No way to even know what I have exactly, my friends unwrap my CF stuff or other toys and take pictures to see if it made it okay, re-wrap it back up and put it back in the box so it waits for me to get home... it really sucks

So who did all the work to your car while you are overseas?
*edit*
Just read your cardomain. So you have all those parts sitting in their boxxes and you've never even driven your own car????? ZOMG. I wouldn't have that kind of patience.
It is really, really hard! No doubt about it.... It sucks when you buy something and then all of a sudden you see someone else with your idea... Now that I'm like 2 months away from going home, I have made every thing ready to install... I'll go ahead and put on the parts that I can, I already got quotes for a tune and things I can't install myself.. The body kit will be painted by my bestfriend, since that's what he does, so in a matter of a week I'll have almost everything done... The good thing with that is, your car is in a schedule, and when you get back, you just get everything hooked up instead of waiting a long time for purchasing and waiting on shipment... hell $20 grand is already in my room waiting, the installs of all them toys I'm sure will be fun!
I am a SGT E-5 in the Army, I see this all too often. Young Private big dreams, poors every last cent he has into somthing he loves and is unable to fully enjoy it because he cant afford gas or insurance, not to mention maintanance. And dont think you will be able to let your maintanance slide, your squad leader will be checking your pov regularly to make sure it is safe to drive, and if he finds a deficiency you will be told to park it until it is corrected. And insurance is another big one they will make sure your insurance is current and valid, so you wont be able to role without it. To brake it down for you, You are going to start out making:
Aprox. 1300.00 base pay before taxes. so lets say 1100.00
So 1100.00-
535.00 This is my car payment on a used VIII
100.00 insurance and this is being pretty loose
100.00 This is what I pay on gas as an average
This leaves you with 365.00 dollars a month and mind you those were all rough estimates of just your car expenses. If you bought new your payment is going to be higher, also I am 24 yrs old and you are 17 so your insurance is going to be considerabley higher than mine I pay approx 75 a month for the evo. and lastly gas, my estimate was based on my usage ( I have an 03 with only 36,000 miles.
I am not telling you not to do it, I am just telling you to think first.

I agree with Apex Racer... I am an E-5, but thing about me is I'm a Reservist who's also a GS-11... Now if you deploy, save at least half of the car... for example:
I paid out of pocket $16,363.35 for the down payment and took a 15,000 loan to help me build credit!
Now I pay $248.00 a month for my car...
I would recommend you paying off as much as you can. If you use your deployment and have no bills you can easily pay a $30,000 car off. I for example, with all the little extra incentives, will make some where near the 40k a year. if you do it right, you can get the car paid off, and have some left over for mods or something else you like. But it will take you around 6 months to get half of the payments for the car. I bought a brand new EVO IX at $31,363.35, I'm sure you can get a used evo for less... MAKE SURE YOU GET IT WITHOUT ANY MODS! Good-luck

About being 17 and joining: All you need is parental consent.
I'm 20 now, about to turn 21 (horray for lower insurance!) and I'm having absolutley no problem at all affording this car. I have about $500/month after all my bills and I'll have even more once I start collecting BAH and BAS.

Don't ever take BAH/BAS into account when buying some thing that you have to payoff since it won't always be there or at the very least be the same. Im an E-4 and get 1450 a month for BAH...which is awesome...but if i get stationed in Alabama or some crap it wouldn't be near that.
and who told you thats good credit? I mean, it's not horrible, but it will be low enough to make most banks say no...especially to some one with your income on a 30k vehicle.
..and are you just taking a stab or have you actually ordered a credit report?

yeah military usually gets a discount but i bet it will be hard to find an evo at the end of the summer. i hope u are trading the car u have now in on the evo then it will be a lot easier to get them to let u have the car without a cosigner .
only way i can see a military guy getting a brand new evo is just like everyone here said...save up, save up good...it helps more when you're deployed. then pay a good chunk for down payment. that's about it.
