The only way I can afford this car is if I take on as much of the work as I can do myself. I have to rebuild my acd pump soon. There's no way I'm going to pay $2000 to have that done. I have basic tools and a small, steep, driveway.

I take that to mean built (buy a platform and make it perform as good as classes higher then the one it was made for) vs bought (Insert supercar here).

My time is worth more to me then spending a few extra hours underneath a car because i either a) don;t have a lift or b) dont have power tools.

I used love doing my own work. I don't trust my limited skills for engine work. I'd always be afraid it was something I did wrong.

Plus if I'm not tuning it then its pointless. If someone tunes a car I've built and the blow it up they can easily blame it on the build. If you pay a shop to do everything its a bit harder for them to say you're on your own (I know they still can but if they are a stand up shop they will do the right thing).

i am one of those do it all your self guys. i am on my machinists xmas card list though. i too find doing it all as satisfying as driving the car and tuning is the cherry on top. but i never harbor any ill will to guys that just write the check. we all have limitations and preferences.

I look at built As you built it in your Garage or you had a shop do it with the parts you wanted and picked out . Bought i look at it as you got a 600 hp car of of someone else. They did the work they spend all the money all you have to do is buy the car and drive it

pointless argument. its arguments like these that puts shops out of business and more idiots blowing stuff up.

some people have jobs and just dont have time. some rather have a reputable person do the job so they can be worry free. this is also why there are soo many people who "build" their cars for 2-5 years and then end up selling it because they never finish.

haters gonna hate. do what makes you happy because you can never make everyone happy.

It does feel good to work on your own car but theres a limit to the things i won't do myself, such as my clutch and transmission being i don't have enough experience. Would I like to do it sometime, yeah why not, but id rather take it to a reputable shop and have that peace of mind knowing that "said Shop" is responsible if anything does go wrong with those components. I pick out my parts and install the parts i know i can install, if not ill send it to "said shop" and they will install and tune when finished which is what i am in the process of going through. The quote "built not bought", bought to me means you bought a car someone else built to their liking and you are now just enjoying someone else's car. IMO there is no fun in that, but i could careless because its not my car. Just don't go around thinking your hot **** when you probably can't name half the mods on it

There is so much freedom in not caring what other people think.

I had a shop build my car. hell they still have it. I took it to them in october! It started off smoothly and things got worse from there. They made promises they didnt keep and so on. Now 20g's later I am still waiting for my car to be tuned. I should for done everything myself besides the tune. I wouldnt know where to start on that. But live and learn.

I try to do everything myself but there are some things I can't do like internal motor work, certain fabrication and tuning. I'll leave that stuff to a professional rather than attempt it myself and have my motor blow up on me.

Even though that could happen with the work in a shop's hands as well but at least they'll be at fault.
