Move on to an 8/9??
Move on to an 8/9??
I currently have an evo x with some tasteful mods and I have been enjoying it less and less as the days go by. I have been thinking about selling it and getting an 8 or a 9 for the past few weeks, but just don't know if I will like the change. I do autox and like the power in my x, but I feel as if it just isn't raw enough for me. I kind of feel like its just too heavy..would moving to an 8/9 be a smart decision? Most people say they are extremely raw and race car-y. I don't care about interior at all. I want something the best for the track, and I know the evo x awd system is amazing but I feel as if the heaviness of the car really ruins that system, even with good coilovers.
So do you guys think its a smart move??
Also, which of the two would be better? I don't want an MR due to the ****ty 6 speed ive heard of. Also don't want the RS because I don't know if I could live with manual windows lol. all feedback is appreciated!

I would stick with your X and keep refining it for the track, there are alot of seriously sick Xs around
If you get a 8 or 9 you will probably lose money selling your x and you'll soon get that out of your system and be looking to settle back down with an X again.

only you can say. i don't daily my IX, so i appreciate how it drives. i don't need a cushy ride or quiet cabin. i COULD daily it, but i'd prefer my Civic for that duty.
if you want an all-around car without getting too serious about being an all-out race car or a luxury cruiser, stick with the X. if you want *****-to-the-wall fun and performance with no compromises, i'd get an VIII or a IX.
just my opinion, of course we all have our own.
it just comes down to what you want out of the car.

agreed, it does sound like you would like an VIII/IX. i don't see many Xs at the top of track record lists :P
as for the MR and the 6spd, i have 125k mi and counting on mine. i don't drag race, though. i also only run about 350whp at autox events and a bit over 400whp for Time Attack. i change the fluid regularly. from what i've read, those that take care of them have no issues and we all really like the gearing. again, it's preference. if going for big power, you will want the 5spd for peace of mind. in that case you wouldn't care about gear ratios anyway.

I'd see if someone in the area has an older VIII/IX that is setup kinda how you'd want for auto x and would let you drive it at the track and on the street for a bit to get a feel for how it drives there. The street is always the test for the older Evos.

the x feels heavier out the gate no doubt. my recommended suggestion is to cut off 100 - 150 pounds from it. i've reduced the weight of mine by 150 lbs (30 of this rotational) so far, and it feels more agile than my old viii now. car is a real blast now.
yeah I don't care about interior and all that other extra stuff at all. I mean if I did I wouldn't have gotten an evo in the first place.
that being said, I do not plan on daily driving the 8/9, when I sell my x (if I do) I will be buying a daily and then saving up and buy one later this summer/fall.
also, I do not plan on drag racing either. I don't drag race my x and drag isn't what these cars were really made for.
A friend of mine has a track setup evo 8 and there is a track day on Saturday so I don't know if he will let me drive it but definitely ride with him so that's better than nothing. I think I will be making my decision this weekend.
Thanks everyone for all the feedback its greatly appreciated.

one ride and you will be hooked. everyone is :P
but yeah I will be really picky when I do go buy an 8/9 if I choose to, I just wont know to go for an 8/9. don't really care the small differences but the turbo/motor really
MIVEC is a nice feature, as is an LSD front diff. As for ACD, I'd prefer a mechanical diff, but no biggie. An VIII would keep me happy if I couldn't find a nice IX. 👍
Yeah I think I'm gonna shoot for a 9 but if not I'll be more than happy for an 8 since I'll basically be using it as a track car and weekend driving. I think I've decided I'm putting the x for sale this weekend....
