So another update:

I tried all the fuses, checked for fuel in the FPR vacuum lines etc, all checked out fine. I thought I would go back to the start, because this all went wrong after the new coil packs, I had one of the OEM packs in good shape, the other had a dodgy boot which I damaged accidentally.

I used a combo of 1 x new coil, boot and lead & 1 x OEM coil, boot and lead & the car started, ran & after the 5-7 second time frame in which it would normally stall it kept going, it shook really bad though. Which is exactly what I had read on another thread I found with the same issue but it was never updated with a fix.

I tried a combo of the new boots & leads with the stock coil packs and it starts and runs without any problems at all!

It seems that the new coils themselves may be no good but I am not 100% sure that is the case, it really seems that they do work but for some reason the car cannot maintain current/voltage to the coils or something.

I am stoked to have a running/driving car though because it means I can take it over to get looked it by a second pair of eyes, I will continue to try and get these packs working & update this thread.

I had a key cut for my 8. That way, when at work, I could start the car in winter and let it warm while still having a key in my pocket to let me in. Anyway, my car will start and run for several seconds using this Ace Hardware key.

I can't believe no one suggested switching back to the original coils in the first place. Seeing as how you stated the problem didn't start until you replaced the coils, that would be the first place I would start. Are you running the original waste spark setup or an aftermarket coil on plug setup? I can't recall, but I think you said you replaced with aftermarket coils...I would try running oe ones. And I know you said you pulled out each fuse and inspected it but that doesn't mean there isn't an issue. I would get a test light or a multimeter and check for continuity on each side of the fuse while it is plugged in. I hear there is an ignition fuse under the drivers side dash that blows commonly when switching to a coil on plug setup. I believe it's a 15a fuse but don't quote me on that.

Considering it will run for 10 seconds, that would lead me to believe you are getting spark on all 4 cylinders, which does make it sound like a fuel issue. but since it happened after coil replacement, that should be the first thing you eliminate. you should be able to rent a fuel pressure gauge from an 0-rielly's or autozone. I would hook up a fuel pressure gauge and watch it at idle and then when the car dies. you don't want the fuel pressure gauge to bleed off when the car shuts off. I would check those out first. But again, I wouldn't waste too much money on other stuff until you narrowed out the new coils. Know anyone with an evo that you could use real quick?

Not sure if you caught the other post I put but I did end up going back to OEM coils with the aftermarket boots and leads and it is now running smoothly which means there is still something stopping the new coil packs from working properly but I can still drive the car while I work it out.

I originally thought it was some kind of fuel issue too like the pump not running properly etc but when it dies, it is more like the key is being turned off as opposed to it being starved for fuel. It is just instant with no splutter like you would normally get from a fuel issue.

Going to start looking into things like relays or something that may need to be upgrade to provide more current or voltage.

As for places like autozone, in Australia we don't really have anything like that, nothing close even & considering that I live "in the bush" it is nearly 2hrs to the next big town that carries things like gauges etc so I am have to make do with what I have mostly.

I have emailed the company that made the products to see if they know anything & will post their response here, I am thinking it might be something obscure and simple to fix like a bigger fuse/relay somewhere or even like the battery not having enough current.

Will post back here once I have a bit more info about what it might be

Nothing really to report, I am still waiting to hear back from the guys I bought them off & I have been busy with work and we had a long weekend here so been tied up elsewhere but I did spend a few minutes playing with it and as I posted before, I could get it to start and run (badly) with 1 x OEM coil and 1 x new coil so I thought I would take out the lead which went to the new coil and just earth it out on some metal to check for a spark which it did.

What was interesting though was that the car did not run any differently at all when I did it, not like if you pulled a lead on a car normally, it would misbehave and you could hear the difference. So I am starting to realise that these coils just might not be compatible with my car despite what I was told when they were sold to me. Could just be a bad batch, I hope they will send me another set to test.
