Keep yourself fed. It goes a long way in keeping stress levels down while you're trying to get to an impossibly recessed bolt. Less things will break if you're calm.

+1 on the time budget. Remember every part you need will take a week to get there. Then the next one. Then the next...etc.

Also, giving the car a thorough once over looking for worn parts when you are changing the oil will prevent failures and down time. If you notice something is worn, order it and replace before it fails and leaves you stranded.

Also, change the fluids on time. The diff and tcase especially don't hold a lot of fluid for what they are.

And order more than one. Better to pull off the shelf and use it while the new one is on the way.

Have a second car or a ride lined up because if you take your Evo apart it probably is not taking you to work on Monday.

a daily is a HUGE help. my civic gets 50x the mileage of the Evo. HUGE help, if you are going to modify any car on a regular basis.

Know your limits. Read how-tos and read them again. Take your time, and prepare for the worst.

My civic saves me in fuel what it costs me for insurance. And I'm pretty sure what I pay in registration on the civic I save in reduced maintenance costs. And its an Si, so its still kind of fun to throw around lol.

Aaa with 200 mile tow . Fsm is your friend. Don't live in the rust belt. Solder joints are weaker and more prone to failure that crimped pins. Buy the correct tools for the job. If you don't know ask and take pics. If something sounds wrong/broken it is.
